How does your car sound with those new Schrick Cams? If you have quite the input on them, you can leave them here at this thread https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums//showthread.php?t=1739240or make a new one since me and many others haven't seen much info on them.

I'm interested to know what these cams would do in a engine with stock turbos and upgraded turbos without a fully built engine. In past cars upgraded cams and ported heads always helped, even with super charged cars. Curious as to how much and how(power band) it will help the S55.
Information will be released by the company who completed the testing very soon.

Probably the new Dorch HPFP setup that G-Man can't talk about... I've got another "popular" buddy in NJ who just might be a guinea pig.

I don't want to come across as an assh@le but my wallet has been hit hard along with the learning/experimenting. You can decide if you want to believe me but I cannot share everything as I've signed non disclosures at times and am not willing to risk my legal liability.

The S55 is in another state currently and I'm not going to ask the builder to share sound clips until the car is delivered in June. I will say it's not American muscle sounding nor Supra with big camshafts as I would pass just due to my dislike of that type of sound.
Well, can't wait to hear what your car sounds like in June. Will upgrading to the Schrick Cams make the car rev higher, or allow it to rev higher, or neither? Is there quite a bit of tuning involved to make this motor rev to 8k RPM?

Revving to redline isn't the issue it 99.9% of turbos fall on their face after 6-6,200 rpms meaning you'relosing power after that. Nothing to do with cams. The only turbos I'm familiar with that will continue to boost past redline are Kratos.

Camshafts with Kratos Turbos would be an awesome setup. Single Turbo applications will pull all the way up top. So you mean to tell me that there is not a problem with this motor winding all the way out to 8K RPM's? Can the Schrick Cams offer that capability?

Sorry but I can't answer your question. I've never heard of anyone pushing 8,000+ rpms on a S55. Single turbo setup isn't my thing. I prefer boost to come on around 2,400 rpms and it's my understanding single turbos take much longer to spool but not my experience/background. You would be better off contacting 4N as they're way more experienced with the single turbo setups.

That's where I was going, a high revving S55 is something I would like to build.

At the end of the day, I just want to see a fully built S55 with a big turbo revving all the way up to 8k RPM's. That would be nice, I just know that in doing so it would cost a pretty penny.

I'm not trying to blow up a motor guys. Taking an S55 to 8K would take a toll quick, probably bearings first...

Also, need to keep the daily driver action happy with a pair of fast spooling turbos instead of a late hitting big single.

Apparently the sound of a single turbo setup will make you forget about the lag 😂

All righty! Here's first pix of the donor motor that got shipped to BMB. Tomorrow they'll get it unboxed, on a stand and checked in. F80MGod said the donor still ran so I'm optimistic that the crankshaft and the cams didn't take any lasting damage, and at worst the valves tapped the pistons. Both of those are planned for replacement anyway...

gman_newyork what's the skinny on rods. I see CP a lot for rods and slugs, but what about Manley turbo tuff with Mahle for 900WHP. My old skool mind looks for light weight first but also damn strong as second...but some of those H-beams look heavy, or not so easy to sling oil from (not sure there). Pauter worth the bucks?

Forged Mahle S55 piston standard comp: 411g with pin but without rings.
Manley turbo tuff S55 rods: 560g
(Complete OEM piston/rod assembly is around 1000g)

My custom low comp pistons is 11g lighter, but then the HD pins were 11g heavier than the normal ones so it ended up the same anyway 😅

I've been watching your build Chet, impressive stuff coming from one guy. When you get the chance, definitely post some sound clips of your car on IG. I bet it sounds pretty good.

In his post you can hear the monster rev. His tag should say CHET JET!

Is it pointless to put cams in a non built motor with just upgraded turbos?

It could help, but if I was doing cams I'd want a built head too.

If I had a built head I'd want a block and assembly that could take the abuse.
