As for a 275 on an 11" wheel, really depends on the tire, but most seem to call for a 9" to 11" wide wheel. I'm typically okay with stretching a tire a little bit for track use, so long as it isn't some silly rubber band fitment with no shoulder.
Yeah must be something really specific to the Ohlins suspension. I may switch to another suspension over the summer, we'll see.

Problem is this is still a street driven car, a racier setup may be the dog's balls on track but may rattle my precious fillings off on the street.

Hoping one day our paths cross on the track so I can see this beast.

I am itching to get some of the cobwebs out. Looking at the Autocross/Car Control Clinic at EVOC and then spring drive with RMBMWCCA.

Hi everyone!

One more question here. I have been running my civic F80 M3 with catless downpipes and just a CS tune from BM3 (have not tried stage 1 or 2), however when going to the track i would always switch back to stock tune because im kind of paranoid about crank hub i guess or something. Im also kind of tempted to run CS tune on track so can someone tell me if i am overthinking it with the crank hub?
Also, how much power is the CS map making with catless downpipes and the fact that i have them, does it add any whp?

Thanks

I've used the BM3 Stage CS+ on track (this according to Protunning Freaks has more whp than the Stage 0+ CS Tune), everything else is stock apart from MPE (probably makes no difference in hp compared with stock ZCP exhaust). While Protuning Freaks / others have posted dyno results showing whp gains over stock ZCP towards the top-end, I hardly notice any difference on the road and on the track. At one of my local tracks, the top speed I reached with the Stage CS+ on the back straight was more or less the same as what I reached with the stock map.

Same here, I don't want any risk about the crank hub so I have never used Stage 1 and 2, even on the road.

Bm3 has options on their stage 1 and 2 tunes to limit the torque to cs/gts level.
Despite the 'bmw screwed up train' crowd, BMW clearly did not want to surpass a certain torque level. Limiting the bm3 stage 2's torque by 30% leaves the torque at the level the cs/gts cars have, which is what bmw classified as safe

If i were ok losing my warranty -i am not- then that does not seem like such a terrible idea

Gotcha. Im running the CS which is not the + version and suppose to mirror OEM CS map. I definitely noticed the gain over civic M3. Im mostly wondering how much whp/torque do catless downpipes add so that i dont go too crazy with torque

I dont even need extra power the stage 1/2 provides. OEM CS is more than enough for me. How much fo catless diwnpipes add in terms of hp/torque. Or is it going to be zero because its going to get limited by OEM CS map anyway?

I don't know. I'd think you would get additional free power

It all comes down to the length of the straights on a track.
At COTA I’m 150+ mph in 5th gear on a DCT on the back straight.
So a tune can definitely help on long straights, then it’s all about brakes!!!

Was out at HPR on Wednesday letting my dad drive. Covered ~200 miles with him driving on track for the first time after 15 years. I was a little nervous at times with him coming in 5-15mph too hot but the car kept saving him. Only photos I took of the day were when we were loading the car back on to the trailer

I'm taking my son next week to Summit Point for 1 day, his first ever outing on track. But he won't be driving the M3, as a 17yo novice that would be disastrous - he has his E46 330ci.

It's an incredible feeling to pass on the baton, so to speak.

BMW Perf center West

Finally used BMW voucher that came with the car for 1 day M school.

First impressions BMW performance center west: good group of guys that surprisingly letting us run pretty hard on South Palm circuit with M4 and M5's with M2s reserved for the short/autocross course. If you are not familiar with Thermal club, check this out - Nirvana.

Not worth the price of admission for serious track rats, however, good way to get someone new into the "habit", my ultimate goal this time. Retail price is approx $1500 for 1 day M school with 15% discount for BMW CCA membership.

M5 was surprisingly capable and nimble considering its size. It did move around under heavy braking on S Palm, but nothing unexpected for a car this big. It was also easy to step out the rear end with 600+hp on the skid pad and keep the slide going - like you need 600hp on polished concrete.

M4 was right at home on South Palm at speed. After about four hot laps with nannies on, those CCB brakes were smokin and smelling pretty cooked. Think they limit the laps at pace to keep those brakes alive. They also go thru a ton of tires, Conti sponsored.

Overall, a nice change of pace and need to figure out how to get back on the tracks at Thermal club - all 3 of them!

Agreed, the BMW track events are nice as a curiosity but are not satisfying for the serious track junkies.

I plan on using mine to test the G8X on track, but without camber plates or more track oriented tires there's only so much you can tell!

No shit, without the required basics it would be really hard to determine how well a car can handle.

You might be able to push a G8x really hard, but how long until the front tire shoulders are gone?

Side note for us track guys, after wearing a face mask everywhere, my baklava head cover no longer seems a big deal on the track.

You just need to buy a house at the Thermal country club or befriend somebody who has a house

Looks like the G80 is a heavy car. When I did the my M school, the F80 with CCBs didn't have those issues.
