Buy 3rd M4 or Keep my 2016 Audi RS7? Dilemma!

Hello,

I recently purchased a new 2016 Audi RS7, the thing is a total beast. And apart from it being an amazing daily it feels like a boat and I kind of dislike the rear.

I'm considering purchasing my 3rd M4, however, this one is a convertible with every option except ceramic. The F83 is a 2015 with 6k miles. Part of me really wants to do it, but part of me doesn't. The RS7 is pretty rare in my area, only about 3 within a 250 mile radius, but there's a fair amount of F82's.

I would be getting some money back on this deal due to the equity I have in the RS and the fact that I have to pay no taxes on the trade in, but I'd also be loosing some money as well. The F83 is $800 less per month. I paid 127k for the RS the used F83 is 78K.

Am I stupid for even considering this?!! A lot of my friends and family seem to think so. They feel as though it's a downgrade, even though they're 2 very different animals. I just miss how fun the M4 was to drive.

Thanks for the reply. I'm torn between the 2. My heart tells me M4 but it's also telling me to keep the RS. I normally wouldn't post something like this.

If you're really torn, and have been for a while, try this: You have to choose RIGHT NOW, which one is it?

That usually tells you where you're heading.

Cheers

I feel the same way everyday about my M3 E46. I really want the M4 but that will come within time. But I do know that a piece of me will be gone from the M3. The RS& is a gorgeous car. It is a big car and luxurious but if it were up to me, I would get the M4. I like nimble cars and that's just my preference. Follow your gut. Go drive another F82/F83. If it puts a grin on your face and you keep thinking about it. The you will know what you really want.

I've had an M4 (one of the 2) for a total of 7 months...lol The first one I dd and the second one I drove at my leisure.

Ok so I owned a 2014 RS7 and had some of the same thoughts you did. I thought it was a bit floaty understanding the weight was a factor (I had the spring suspension) and also the rear end need a spoiler or something to fix the lines IMHO.

I installed these sway bars on the car and it really transformed it; no it didn't fix the weight issue but it clearly made lateral movement better and pulled out some of that nasty Quattro understeer. I also tuned the car and it was a keeper. I usually keep cars 6-9 months (except the BS and R8) and the RS7 lasted 11 LOL which says a lot for me. You might want to consider this, if you haven't already along with a tune which will give you crazy dig and roll performance.

Here is my quote at Audizine and the thread with the sways:

Ok so the install is all done. Thanks Greg (I think that's who helped me last night) and Chris today plus Team Eurocode for providing excellent service and getting the job done promptly. I didn't get numerous opportunities to drive the car hard and test the product as I had traffic on the way back home but there were pockets where I was able to open up the car.

First off, I have a DRC car (steel springs) and have replaced those with KW sleeve kits to lower it, so my car is probably a little stiffer than a stock DRC car with KW's spring rates and definitely more stiff than an air car.

The car on the way home felt very stable and in a straight line there was minimal to zero tramlining which I always experience with my PS2 tires at 295x30x21. The groves in the Cali Freeways lead to this and on the way to Eurocode I could definitely feel it happening at various speeds. On the way home it was gone. With my limited chances to push the car I was able to clearly tell the lack of roll on quick lane changes at higher speeds. I normally feel myself moving in the seat a bit against the change but it just wasn't there. The car felt even more planted in this situation. I was able to take several higher speed turns, which I have taken before, and clearly the car was more upright and that inertia feel was not there. The car felt great and on one higher speed bend (100+++) the car was awesome. Its great cheap mod that doesn't take too much time. When I exited and was able to take sharper slower speed turns, the car felt more tossable like it lost 500 lbs. Finally, as Kiku attested, the Quattro steering understeer has been diminshed and the steering feel more engaging than before. I need to get out again with the car on some open roads to provide further feedback but so far so good. Some could say its a placebo feel but its just not the case. That, at times, can be associated that with someone who has to justify an expense purchase coupled with labor and this was neither.

Thanks to the Eurocode guys for this mod.... oh I also gained 75 hp at wheels (I lie).

Thank you I appreciate the input. I have air ride suspension...so I was considering the ets lowering module, I imagine that would fix a lot of the body roll. Plus, I absolutely hate how high it sits without being lowered. I keep cars about the same length...it's a sickness lol

The module will help but the sways are the clincher IMHO. The car needs a wider front and rear bar set on the stiffest setting. Sway bars really change the dynamics of cars but this car needs it no doubt. While the KW HAS reduced some roll in my RS7- the sways were the defining mod.

Good luck either way with your choice.

Besides being a first world problem, I can see OP where you would be torn. The RS7 exterior, though not my cup of tea, is oddly appealing. I agree with you that the rear is disconcerting. A neighbor of mine has the RS7 in your color but with stock wheels. It is fast, but is a full size car in my opinion.

The F8x has suited me well for all applications...that is the greatest attribute of vehicle.

It's a tough decision, but I have faith you can make it. Nothing like lowering your monthly payment...more money for gas, autocross, and M school.

I hear ya. That's why it's a difficult decision. I feel like the RS7 is a step above the F83, but many times I feel like I'm not as in love with the RS7's styling as I thought I'd be. The interior of the RS isn't much larger either, but it's better quality IMHO. I have the stock wheels, but I powder coated mines.

I think the F8X looks more aggressive from the front and the rear when compared to the RS...

Not by that much. With a tune and dp there isn't any noticeable difference. My AY F82 6mt felt "too light" since I had carbon roof and no dct weight...I had a tune in it and it felt all over the place...I definitely had traction issues.

I would probably sit on it and wait a month. see how you feel then. rushing decisions is what leads to poor choices, and in this game, that adds up to big $.

EDIT: if it were me, I'd probably keep the RS7 for another year and then get a 991.2 GTS Cab.

Makes sense. That's the reason I've been sitting on it for a week now...still thinking on it.
