The fact that you think that G82 looks better than your current F82 🤷
I'm trying to find even one aspect - ok got it! G82 has nicer headlights lol
I never said better. I did say I think the G8X looks more aggressive from the front though, and much of that is attributable to the grille and hood design. I have personally felt like the last few M cars (...especially the E9X) looked soft from the front. The F8X improved upon the aggression, but without a front lip and black grilles, I still don't care for the front very much. The side/rear profiles of the F8X are great though. I don't care for the rear profile of the G8X, but I do like the side profile. The interior of the F8X is nice, but the G8X interior takes the cake. It's on another level.
I'm biased, like all of us here.

But the e9x stance looks wider and more race car than f8x. Also the simplicity of the bumper openings vs the pointless additions on the f8x for the sake of looking aggressive.

If you hate on the g8x pointless hood adornments you have to be consistent with the f8x.

Either way, when you look at these two you know they are part of a lineage, a family, and there is shared DNA. One is an evolution of the other. You see the resemblance even tho the styling is different. But when you throw the G8X in there you just wonder who brought their distant 3rd cousin with the extra chromosome.

Many of us are reacting viscerally to what we are seeing. “acquiring a taste” is not possible and “putting in effort to hate” is not necessary. Also “adult men” is redundant.

I’m new to BMW’s, new to M’s, and thank God I got in on the F80 because if the G was my first introduction, I would have said “pass.”

Couldn't agree more. The G8x reaction is not the standard generational change of guard fuss. Visually, it flat out doesn't work and forcing an acquired taste is insanity for $70k.

I guess you've never met any adult men

But, yeah, my grapes are sour - not because outgoing model blah blah blah (I've had every one since the e46), but because BMW took a meat cleaver to 40 proud years of BMW design with the G8x design disaster.

Ask the guy who ran BMW design for 10 years, Frank Stephenson:

Another great one is his review of the new iX:

He makes a great distinction about designers in this video:

He calls the iX a "refrigerator" and says it looks like it was designed by product designers, not transportation designers, because it doesn't look like it's in motion. Always great insights from Frank

Maybe they are intentionally missing the point because elsewhere people are too rude and at least we're all enjoying talking about all types of cars.

Trying to ruin our official BP general chat with bait

Some dude picked up a IOMG further north of me and it's being passed around as a laughing stock on Facebook for the most part.
Some really like the "aggressive" grill as they describe it but man, putting down so much money only to have a huge majority make fun of it, sad.
Sad for BMW and sad for M's.
Sad all around really.

Bugs the hell out of me. I know the CS was set up like this, but it looked dumb to me too.
Almost like it's supposed to be a front wheel drive vehicle...
Interestingly there’s a lowered G80 with 20” wheels all around on the front page. I find the larger front wheels look disproportionately too big on the car.

I love the 19”/20” setup on my CS...

I am so glad you brought this up. Words cannot describe how much I hate the features I circled in the attached photo. Same with the rear end analogous features. Overstyled for styling's sake. But the rest of the car flows really well and the proportions are great, and I just don't feel that way with the new generation car, especially the M4.

I'm not trolling as all. Just calling you out for being immature and that's my opinion and. I feel I can do that here because it's a thread consisting of bunch of people complaining they got banned for having an opinion. I will refrain going forward from making those comments because I've done it a few times already which is enough as I don't want to be a troll repeating my opinion over and over and over as that's what got people banned from the G8x forums.

The bolded is particularly hilarious given the content in this thread.

Hate is a strong word but I have to agree there's something odd about this part of the car's styling. Looks like gills or something. It's still a handsome vehicle as I've kicked the tires on a few F82's of late and this is the one part of the exterior styling that I feel could have been done better. I would probably get into one of these but I'm having a hard time getting over the interior. I think it's well laid out but its just very dated looking for the price point as I thought my old M2 was dated inside when I owned that.

Yeah I was being a little dramatic I guess. I still bought the car. But I will say, it took me 5 years to get over the hood cuts/front bumper top lines since they debuted on the original F30 3 series back in 2012. Still don't like them, and I think it's the ugliest thing about the exterior. It was a big step down from the e90 generation. Would have much preferred if the hood came down to the top of the grilles.

The rest is more of a strong dislike. I miss the days of simply formed bumpers that let the body lines do the talking. The current Honda Civic is the worst offender, but there are plenty others.

Really, what am I personally being immature about (more insults that get you banned on G8X immediately). Please produce these posts.

As much as how offensive people think the new civic type R is, I think it epitomizes the ethos of what it is, a fun JDM boy racer car. That's what makes it special IMO. In regards to the G8x, the designers were just going for something edgy and forward thinking, which did not work at all.

Haha I hear what you're saying, but in my opinion, the CTR or any other Civic model did not need the circled bits in these photos. I very much dislike them the same way that I dislike the F80 generation bumper features. It's these features that make the current Civic an ugly/controversially styled car.

I just don't think it's needed and having a clean bumper with a subtle reflector placement like the M2 would have made it a home run. Instead of giant black plastic panels. The F80 is less intense but the front and rear bumper corners are still too busy for my taste.

Camaro image isn’t loading above the yellow M4 in my post anymore, so missing visual context, but anyways.

Misplaced assumptions. I’ve loved every M3 gen since E36, acknowledge the positives and negatives of each and objective performance progress, including with this latest gen. (You must have missed my multiple posts prior to the one you quoted.)

So, more specifically, I have contempt for what this particular group did to the design of an automotive icon.

You’re entitled to consider it an acquired taste. Won’t question your adulthood on that basis.

Manual vs. DCT, PDK, ZF, it’s anywhere from a couple to a handful of tenths per lap on most tracks. The more upshifts per lap, the wider the margin. But the dual clutch advantage at speed, on the roll (e.g., 3rd to 4th), isn't very much.

As an example, .2 GT3 manual was 0.2 off .2 GT3 PDK at Big Willow. Same test, in the hands of Pobst.

I really hunted but wasn't able to find any more than about that after going from a manual to DCT E90, equal mods.

Oh you're absolutely correct..When I see a JDM EK9 CTR , I DROOOOL...Have you been following the youtube channel called Gears and Gasoline? Hes doing a build there...The lines of that gen are so clean and looks great...

But I think the general consumer population want something more garish these days...It was probably a culmination of small aggressive tweaks over the years that just came to be..
