Front License Plate Mount - M4

I recently purchased a 2017 M4 from California. I live in NJ, a state that requires a front license plate. The car does not have any bracketry on the front of the car. Can anyone recommend something that i can attach my front license plate to the car without requiring me to drill into the front of the car?

there is a plate holder that will attach to your tow hook location

my search brought up a lot of options

bmw m4 tow hook license plate mount

then you can remove it whenever you want and not have any holes that need to be drilled

Thank you but I just looked online and don't really like that set up. Then there is a large removable door missing from the front bumper....

I have this set up and I can take the back plate off with the plate by pulling a pin when I don't want to display the front plate, then put it back on when parking in downtown. We too are required to have a front plate and meter maid ticket cars for failing to have one. I don't like the side mount, because our cars are not Stis!

msiegel117 Is your goal to have the plate mounted at all times but not drilling the bumper to help with resale down the road? Or stowable for shows, photos, etc?

If the former I had the same challenge as an NJ driver. My solution was to apply composite shims to the back of the standard F8x front plate bracket to create a mounting surface, and then use extra strength 3M dual loc tape strips to fasten the bracket to the bumper. The tape is not visible underneath the bracket so it looks clean. When time comes to sell, the tape can be easily removed with either dental floss or gentle heat gun, leaving a clean hole-free bumper. I've driven with this setup for three years with no issues.

Rennline - license plate bracket

https://www.rennline.com/License-Pla.../products/945/

MD has the same law and this works well - easy on & easy off. If my car was bone stock, I wouldn't have it on the car.

I live in CA and although technically we're required to have front license plates, many people, and most car enthusiasts, don't have them installed. When you get a car delivered from a BMW dealer in CA, you can request that they not drill the front bumper and mount the license plate but you're given a disclaimer that indicates that front license plates are required and that the dealer assumes no responsibility if you opt out. That's why your car doesn't have a drilled front bumper.

That said, I bought the Carbonio but I've never actually used it. I bought it on the off chance that I do get a ticket for no front plate, which, fortunately, has not happened with either my M4 or my wife's M3, although I did get a ticket in my wife's previous 335is.

I did mount the Carbonio to check out the fitment and ease of installation and it seems like a pretty good option. I can't vouch for its durability on the road though since I've never actually driven with it.

Skene

Skene Designs makes a $59 mounting bracket; it screws in from below and uses the dealer-provided plate holder that is molded for the front bumper. I used in on my M4 and my Porsche. Has worked well on both cars.

I live in CA and I've gotten fixit ticket so for me it had to be done.

I actually bought the Carbonio mount for the same exact reason lol.

I've been driving without a front license for 3 years in a state that requires it and have been pulled over 4 times without it being mentioned once. Just my 2 cents.

That being said, I keep my mount in the trunk in case it ever does get mentioned so I can say "I am going to install it this weekend"

Call me crazy but I can't stand the look of a front plate

I guess it's gonna be hard without drilling. Ideally, you would make 4 holes in the bumper - just like BMW does

Not to resurrect an older thread, but I'm resurrecting it. Just ordered this mount a few minutes ago. Got a ticket the other night ($70 in MD) - first one in this M4. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted. Thanks for the recommendation on this mount though. Much appreciated!

I've had the tow hook mount thing for 3.5 years or so. I really have grown to hate it. But its staying there as I don't want to give a cop any reason to pull me over. I like the idea of having the bracket in the trunk and showing them and saying "I just picked it up and will install ASAP!"
