Very effective and informative job with the comparisons, Jason.
My impression of the front of the M4 is that it has too many partitioned scoops and too many edges. To me, the effect is a front end straining to appear brutish. It seems, these days, manufacturers have abandoned the idea of combining elegance with aggressiveness in their front ends and are, instead, competing among themselves to see who can produce the most combative, in your face, front ends. From the looks of it, increasing the the number of scoops and edges is one way to get there.

Of all pitcure angles I like the low angle front-side shots the least and i can't fathom why it has become so popular. BMW uses it all the time in their launches.

- It makes the front fender gap look bigger than it is
- It makes the car look soft.
- It distorts the lines so it looks like a Benz CLS, i.e like it's having digestion problems with a swollen tummy and is about to burst or like it's been in an accident and is bent upwards in the middle.

Very unflattering angle for cars indeed.

I like the E92 and I like the new M4 as well. Manufacturers do a great job in making you feel like their slightly aged product (that they pumped so much smoke up your ass about) is suddenly irrelevant when they reveal a new product. Don't be brainwashed. The E92 is a great, high performance, practical, and relevant car. If someone wants to buy a 2013 then I think that's great.

Shame on some of you who are slingin' poo at the E92 owners. It just might be that the E92 could for whatever reason be the better car of the two. More reliable, better put together etc. You guys have no idea if this M4 is going to be stellar or a POS.

I wonder if getting the M4 in black will hide the hood line. I know on my sapphire metallic black M5 the hood line is not as prominent.

507 and 3.0CSL? You mean those cars with that ugly, nasty, disgusting hood cut line?

Now that's funny. As with the 911 the hood cut is not an issue but when the fenders and bumper do not connect as it does in the beautiful 507, 3.0 CSL and 911 it looks a bit unfinished as it is done on the concept and F3X when the hood isn't framed. Again though, it doesn't bother me much.

Btw the Alfa Romeo 8C is another not so ugly car with a hood cut line...again though the hood is framed all the way.

I know the shots here are not from BMW but if you look at the initial F32 launch pictures as an example there are several shots from his terrible angle.

I guess with forced induction you need the big ass grill on the front.

the front end is too bulbous

Great... it really does look like a whale shark. That's all I'll see now.

Same with the new S-Class... front looks like a clown.

This comparo makes me (and many, many others,) very happy with our E92's.

I have a bad feeling about this M4. I think it has gone towards the soft side.

E92 M3 still takes the cake for me. the M4 (at least in this concept form) is a step away from having a "neon chassis lights" option available from the factory :\

Hmmm what's up with people saying: "E46 is a timeless design"? It clearly looks dated and old compared to the other two. While E92 still looks good it will be yesterday's news once F82 hits the streets. The concepts looks menacing

E46 does look really dated in this comparison. But this is a great example of the advancements in design. The M4 is a beauty.

I sure hope BMW is watching the reaction to the M4 concept hood line. It is a lovely car in all respects but, if they do not do something about that hood line in the production car, could mean an E63 AMG-s for me instead of my beloved M3?

By the way, saw a new black 335i the other day with a similar hood cut...the black did not hide it much.
