E92 M3 had a better looking side profile. They moved the side and rear window back too far for this generation 4 series/M4, and made it almost hatchback like to the point that it looks somewhat awkward from certain angles. Just put the e92 and F82 side by side and you see the difference.

I am hoping that they are testing for an optional track aero package for the m4 gts.

If the bodywork would allow a 305 front, it would be amazing.

Note to BMW: please give us 305 or better fronts next time, and cutouts in the seats so the darn QuickFits can fit better.

the 1M can fit more tire under it than either the M2 and the M4 ...

The M2 appears to have limited cooling to the brakes versus the M4.. (hence M2 M performance fenders that allow air through) and it does appear that cooling is also a major focus with these M4 parts..

I hope everyone bitching about the looks is either kidding or just doing it for the attention...cuz it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out this is an early prototype, testing raw parts and the final design will look nothing like this..

Just cannot imagine BMW coming out with another model based on this chassis between a track ready M4 GTS and a track focused M4 GT4.
Not much room between those two.
I like that M2 CSL rendering though...
I can totally see the M2 being the first new CSL version in two to three years...

Relax. It happens in Porsche Land too. Latest and greatest is always a threat to existing markets.

Fair enough. Like I say, I couldn't find the original source of that image. At any rate, in that thread SCOTT mentioned the possibility for multiple CSL models including for the M2, M4, and M6 (which would now be M8). This has since been bolstered by M officials who have also talked about the C(ompetition), CS, CSL tiered model range with CSL replacing GTS. We've already seen the new Competition positioning (separate model rather than a package) with the M2 and M5, and we've also seen the M3 and M4 CS. So there is evidence that things are moving in exactly the direction that had been suggested.

Although the render is an M2, it would be relatively straight forward to apply the same type of design to an M4 (or M8 for that matter). Ergo, the vehicle pictured in the OP of this thread could very well be a test mule for the M4 CSL given the aero elements it wears.

Sure, it looks like a cobbled together mess in some ways, but so do many other test mules. And as for the pre-LCI lights, well that's what the GTS used so its no surprise the GTS-based test car still has them. We also saw M3 CS mules with pre-LCI lights as well. Early test vehicles use a number of parts that aren't representative of the final product.

It would make sense CS CSL etc but in my opinion it's not worth while at these prices. There are better cars at those price points. An M4 is not worth 100k no matter what. Lol

Car's been there for a very long time. Not sure why BMW has started to take it out just now.

Post from sometime last year:

I am not sure if all the improvements and setups are being tested with a particular end car in mind or if they are just doing it to see what effects the changes will have. For example, there is also an M4 GTS that is being worked on (not very actively) even though we do not expect seeing an even more hardcore version of it in the future.

Good god. Did they shop at Autozone?

For those that talk massive crap on the new Civic Type R should look in the mirror if they get this thing. It's hideous.

I remember the thread, but didn't remember you mentioning a GTS test car. Just like the dormant M3 CS eventually did, perhaps it may yet develop into something.
