For those interested in the 718 Cayman I found out that they will be hitting dealer showrooms in November

The difference is usually just added Alcantara, PTV, Sports Chrono at no extra cost oh and a facelift, smoked lights etc. it will also receive approx 15kw of added power, but by then Cobb or APR would have bought out a tune that will surpass the Porsche upgrade. The real difference will be the 718 GT4

Since we are talking about the 718 GTS, which is essentially a package deal with popular performance options, anybody have thoughts on which of the following they would get if they went with a 718 S?
-Sports Chrono -PTV -Sports Exhaust (I figure if you want all, then might as well go for GTS) |

If you are tracking it then opt without PTV and purchase a guard LSD for about the same price and it will last!

i think its rather silly to compare these two, the Cayman is TINY compared to the M4, apples to oranges

Finally got to drive a 718S. Overall it's still a great car but the motor just isn't as pleasing as the old flat 6. It's a much more daily able car due to the new torque curve. Turbo lag is present for anything under 5k, it's not horrible but it is there. As for the sound, it sounds great while not under load and just revving but while driving it's very uninspiring sounds like a wrx met a vaccum cleaner (wrx sounds better). Handling wise is definitely a step up from the 981 it's now closer to a GT feeling car but still very comfortable. The pull of the motor is much more like a turbo motor unlike the new 911 which feel much more natural aspirated. As for my previous statement I would revise that to say I would take it over the M4 but would still take the M3 over it if you need the utility. I think these will sell like hot cakes it will just be a different buyer then the previous gen.

I agree. A strange comparison to make.

Both excellent performance cars. If you visit the Porsche forums, a large percentage of owners came from an M3. Despite practicality, it seems to be a common move.

Got to spend about 3 hours with the new 718/718S yesterday. The car overall was spectacular. It has the sport exhaust and I thought it sounded great. Low RPMs it had that wrx'ness, but as you went up the rev range, it sounded great. I liked it better than the m3/4 in terms of sound. It's not as appealing as the NA 6, but that can be said of any turbo vs NA. The steering was great. Porsche still cannot be touched for electric steering. It was perfectly weighted and scalpel precise. The car did move! The S has no noticeable lag. I think if you look at the tech in the S and especially the 911s there isn't a more tech savvy turbo motor on the market. I think the 718S is probably as fast as the 991 base, or damn close.
The handling was sublime. It was so confidence inspiring, and just encouraged you to push it more and more. This was typical boxster handling except just turned up another notch. Felt very GT like in how it went about its performance. Can only imagine how the new GTS and GT4 are going to be. I'm not looking for a roadster but this car left me grinning. There's something about a technically and emotionally fun roadster that a coupe doesn't give you. Overall, under 100k (and probably a bit over) this is STILL THE roadster to have. ^^ it all comes down to where the engine is sitting pure & simple... I haven't yet driven the 718, but I know nothing comes close to the handling of my CS 987.2
Porsche have simply produced the ultimate handling car, whereas BMW have produced the ultimate driving machine

I think Porsche has simply created the best driving car, whether that's performance, agility, precision, they just do it all so well on their cars. |

yeah without Kids, I would say cayman for sure. When i go to all the BMW CCA events at Lime Rock, majority of cars out there are Caymans (modified) since we share a track with the Lime Rock club.

They are both sports cars in the same price bracket that can be DDed so yes they ARE comparable. Have you checked the poll results or read through any of the comments? lots of people are considering the two as viable alternatives, probably not for you but for many others yes
