I have an M2, am I crazy to add an M4?
I have an M2 DCT and used to have an E92 M3 6MT as well. But, I enjoyed the M2 more, and the M3 was more like a garage queen, so I sold it. Recently, however, I found a used M4 6MT in my preferred color and options. Am I crazy to add it next to the M2? I definitely don't want to give up the M2 since I just got it seven months ago, and I love driving it. I am wondering how different the M2 and M4 are and whether I can justify the cost of owning both. The other possibility is to get a 991 911 S next year (while still keeping the M2).
If you have owned both an M2 and M4 please chime in. Thanks! Last edited by Yvette; 10-09-2019 at 01:43 AM.. |

I currently have an E90, E92 and F80CS M3 so I don't think it's crazy at all!

What would buying the M4 accomplish that your old M3 couldn't?
If it's the engine - may as well replace M2 for M2 Comp or replace M2 with M4. If it's the interior/comfort - much better cars out there than the M4 If it's just because you want it - then have at it I'm the last person to judge someone for the cars they want or buy. Every car I've bought has been for my own reasons, and while those reasons didn't always make sense to other people, they did to me at the time. In the end it's your money. But, since you asked.... I wouldn't call myself old, but my desire and budget for owning multiple cars has changed dramatically in the last 10 years. Since buying the M3, my R8 hasn't gotten much seat time, and it isn't worth enough to trade in on something else. I also can't find it in me to let it go. But it also bothers me that I don't really have the time to drive/wash/maintain 2 manual sports cars, and my job requires the extra cargo space of the pickup. Given the seat time and practicality, my head is telling me to dump the R8. But my heart will never let that happen, so the only solution is to sell the M3 and get some money back while i can. It's also nice cutting down 1 car on my insurance policy. Shpeal over, but my point is every car has its compromises. It is your money at the end of the day, and only you know what you'll be happy with, but if it was my money, M2 and M4 are way too similar for me to justify the costs of owning both. I'd rather roll that money into a better car that could/might be better than both. Last edited by ntg44; 03-01-2022 at 10:21 AM.. |

If you have M2 with S55 I would not add the M4.

Should have got the M4 in the first place.
Since you have the M2 now, I wouldn't add the M4. They're both wonderful cars of course, just enjoy what you have now. |

Add the Porsche. Even though the M2 is DCT and the M4 is 6spd, they are to similar.
I sold my 135 vert DCT when I bought the M4 vert 6spd, would be kind of similar to what your asking, only reason I would of kept the 135 is so the wife could have a 2nd car to drive since she cant do 3 pedals. But she has 2 vehicles, so now all of mine are manual shifters. Now my M5 & M4 are completely different and deserve to share space in my garage.

Much too similar IMO, go for the 991.

If you still want a manual 2dr, at least get a different manufacturer like others have recommended.
I feel like you'll get bored of having to choose between a BMW to drive...or a BMW to drive. Less is more in my book

Word. One of another reasons why I wanted m4 was because the new m4 is hideous, I wanted to secure f series m4 for a long time.

Honestly, all those cars round to the same thing. 991 S, m2 with n55, m2 with s55, m4, they are all street car 2+2. Just pick one and stick with it.
I also didn’t see you mentioning the best f8x variant, F80 M3 that is probably the finest “do it all” 5 seats sedan on the planet, versus there are a ton of 2 seats and 2+2 competitors out there. |
