I am concerned about the reliability of the water tank
Looking at a few M4GTS and got worried about the water tank system + reliability of the car since I wanna daily it to work and back.
But I hear that a water tank replacement is 5K + labor!! If so that's crazy since it's out of warranty now. |

I have not heard of any issues requiring full replacement of the unit. Mostly filter replacement. Easy to do and cheap.
At least nothing of that sort on this forum and there are a number of gts owners here. 5,000+ miles on mine and had the filter replaced for free at 4,500 miles during routine maintenance. |

Use distilled water and use the system. Like many other high performance vehicles, the systems are built to be used. To me (and my SA), the buildup issue seems indicative of a. improper water and/or b. lack of system use. As you may already know, the injection system isn't active under normal, daily drive conditions.
Filter replacement is maintenance protocol every other oil change, if I remember correctly. $100. Mine clearly didn't need replacing at ~3,000 miles, but did it anyway.

As soon as I replaced the filter the water level started to go down. My advice would be to check/replace the stone filter ($37) instead of waiting for oil change. |

Dealer replaced my tank, wasn't using water at all. Asked if it just needed a filter but they replaced the whole thing - something like $3500 for the parts alone. Definitely a concern. Wonder what the failure rates on these are?

Seems to be a high percentage who get it replaced once and then its fine, including me.

i am always suspicious of this whole tank system. there's no real guideline for what's normal usage, and the fact that i've done the multiple filter/part replacements under warranty...all that together can make you get really neurotic about this thing.

I had my water system serviced and replaced Oct 2018. Reliable since then with more than 2000 track miles.

I'm concerned that the water has to be pumped out and back in from the lines every time I park it. I try not to make too many stops because I'm worried about something going wrong.

Are you always driving in Sport+ mode? Mine doesn't seem to do that when I am driving in efficient or sport modes.

I'm driving in sport plus always. That's a good point, I've never tried to see if efficient mode uses water or not, but efficient mode would be boring.

I posted a thread on this earlier before seeing this one. I am at 2,000 miles and have not used a drop of water from the injection tank. That cannot be right, can it?
