Ha, well that's no small feat either, especially for a high school kid. You have to give up a lot of PS3 time with your bro's to get an instructor to sign off on a solo. I actually started flying pretty young as well, and in Cessna 150s. First solo was at 16, and license at 17. Ultimately it became a job, albeit with some great perks. I interview at Delta soon and don't think I'll take the job. Like anything, do it long enough and it stops being fun. Besides, I already had the coolest flying job there is, so airlines won't be exciting.
Chiplee.....Thank you! I hope whatever you do here on out keep you happy. You have earned it.

Nice, were you a pilot as well? What an awesome plane. Are the Germans still flying a few Phantoms or did they finally retire them?

My Dad didn't talk about Vietnam much, but I remember him saying that he was still around and therefore I am because of the close air support from the air. He was a grunt in the Marines and he said that you guys and others got them out of a lot of bad spots.

I'm glad the M3 is still fun as you say it obviously can't replace flying an F-18. At least you have something to get the adrenaline going still.

I don't blame you for not wanting to be an airline pilot. It sounds like the
industry has really changed and it isn't nearly as good of a job as it used to be. Plus it has to be a big let down going from a fighter to an airliner flying wise. I suppose it would be going from driving a race car to driving a bus.

I didn't fulfill my dream of becoming a pilot, but at least I have some solo hours. I guess it is something. It did help with the girls in High School as I was the one of the few people in school that knew how to fly a plane.

Yes. I doubt that the Germans are still flying Phantoms. Those two pictures I posted were from the Vietnam war. You will notice the bombs.

Yup, I noticed the pics were from the Vietnam era. The Germans had a unit of Phantoms flying until very recently. I'm not a member, but I follow Airliners.net forums and they were talking about them in the military section. The Iranians are still flying them out of necessity, but still a testament to how good of an aircraft it is/was.

Did you end up flying anything else after the Phantom? Thank you as well for service, especially during a very unpopular war and an era where you guys treated unbelievably poorly.

I only flew Phantoms. My last 8 years in the Air Force, I flew desks in staff jobs. Thanks.

Sounds like Delta doesn't appreciate what a guy used to carrier landings can do to their gear
