My OCD Is Appeased - Bought One!

After much debate with my wife, I plopped a deposit down on a low-mileage M4 GTS this weekend. It all stemmed from a joke at a Cars & Coffee at the local BMW dealer where we put an M4 between our M2, M3, and M5 (photo attached).

The downside is that I've got to sell the resto-modded 1999 M3 that I've spent the past 3 years building, but... more looking forward to the GTS.

It may see the track, it may not - I've got thousands of hot laps on 2 wheels from another lifetime over a decade ago. Overpaid by a little bit, but the car was close and clean. It will see tons of photos, and probably a few mods, as I tend to tinker in the garage and shoot pictures out and about (IG: @mpower_ryan).

Congrats! Only a few left with really low mileage -- McLaren Philadelphia?

Great car to tinker with. GTS + QuickJack is hours of entertainment.

I'm definitely looking forward to it; a lift for the garage in the works, mostly to stack cars so my wife's SVR can reclaim the spot currently taken by my E46 M3.

As much as I would have loved to grab the one from them with < 1000 miles on it, I couldn't justify the $20k+ premium over the one I picked up with 4400 miles.

Holy shit, not only is this car amazing to drive, but it's also ridiculously photogenic. Took it out for some back road fun this morning and caught the sunrise.

The one departing is an E36 M3 convertible with a factory hardtop. An amazing car, a blast to build, but falls short of the caliber of the remainder of the collection.

If I had an E30 M3, that'd never leave. Hahaha

They're the stock 666M wheels with acid orange accents. Here's a closer look at one via a photo I shot yesterday.

The reflectivity on the silver part of the wheels changes the appearance of them a bit. I have to admit, I wasn't a big fan of them originally, but they're growing on me.

The GTS deserves better, more motorsport inspired wheels like the FI-Rs (19s front, 20s rear) in black which is my strong preference. I really don't understand their choice to run one of their heavier, albeit forged wheels, on the most powerful, fastest F8X iteration.

I'd actually go through the extra expense to swap out chromey old for the LCI darkened headlights, black out the rear spoiler uprights and remove the orange bits. Job done.

Enjoy!

FI-Rs came out in 2015, so maybe it would have been possible. BMW was likely wary of potential warrantability of a brand new, ultralight wheel like the FI-R. They needed a wheel that was strong for track use and could clear the CCBs, so they modified the 666M.

I believe the intent was for most owners to go with the carbon wheel and clubsport options - the carbon wheel (681M) was specially designed for the GTS. No one did because they were $$$ and ugly - they perhaps should have been included rather than an optional extra.

Carbon wheels were scoring. A friend of mine had them, they scored, and dealership took them back. There are several earlier posts dealing with this issue. One post is as follows: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...=carbon+wheels
