Mike@XPH is my go-to guy for all orders wherever possible. Kratos ships it direct anyway…
No. When I bought mine they were on back order everywhere, and one place in a small European country had a set for low price. I wanted to make sure these weren't bogus or a "badly matched" set. They were indeed new and flow correctly.

I'm also in VB. I'd be curious to know if there is any evidence to support that or if it's just hearsay. I'm running an OTS 93 tune, so not pushing any limits. But did assume that I've been putting actual 93 in my car... EDIT: Just looked this up, and found that we are in a RFG (Reformulated Gasoline) district. Link below. https://www.deq.virginia.gov/air/air...lated-gasoline Also looked up the switch date, and found that the Federally Mandated date for refiners to switch to RFG is September 15th (today lol). So I guess I will buy some octane booster. Link below. https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=11031 Last edited by 1000hp; 09-15-2021 at 09:08 AM.. |

RFG seems to have added Ethanol content, and/or Oxygenates for cleaner exhaust. Race fuels use the same tricks so it's not a negative to compensate for. Don't use liquid boost in our cars, it fouls the O2 sensors.
What if the person before you pumps cheap gas, and then you pump 3gal of 93, how much of your 3gal was cheap stuff already in the gas pump valve/filter/hose? What I would advise is go get yourself one pail of E98 (yes 98%) race ethanol and add 1gal to a half tank (6-7gal gas pumped, with 1gal gas in your — — reserve). This bumps questionable 91.5-92 gas up to 94 theoretical octane. E98 is not so expensive either, as it's considered solvent and not petrol-taxed like gas.

I ended up increasing the octane along the line that TopJimmy suggested, however in my case I added about 7 to 7.5 gallons of 100 octane in order to boost it up around the 94 mark; my tuner stated that ignition timing was significantly better after that. If you're looking for 100 octane in the area though, the Sunoco off of Indian River Rd in VB has it available via pre-pay at the pump.

It was right around $8 per gallon when I topped it up last week 😁

Just make sure those aren't leaded fuels for the 105 and 110. Those don't play nice with DI injectors

This coming Tuesday is the day gentlemen, all the kinks appear to have been worked out (knock on wood) and I'll be remote dyno tuning with ABP on full E85.
I did go the extra mile and syphoned out any remaining 93 octane blend via accessing the fuel tank through the rear seats. At the pump she took in just over 15.9 gallons as I ran her past -- by a couple of miles, so between BM3's integrated flex-fuel gauge and fuel testing I'm confident that I'm sitting right around the E80 mark. Fingers crossed and dyno graphs to follow.

Team finally got some proper seat time since the tuning session. Car is running great and man it pulls strong! For those still on the fence, highly recommend this setup 👍

After agonizingly long wait, the results are in!
Months of planning, researching, bloodied knuckles, lost 10mm sockets, more researching, troubleshooting, colorful language, and even more researching, it all finally paid off. An absolutely HUGE shout-out to Avtandil from ABPerformance, this man is my own personal Mr. Wizard. After my previous tuner had issues tuning the EU5 injectors, I handed the baton to this mastermind and he had them dialed in within the first map revision. The car drives as smooth as butter and you'd be hard pressed to suspect that there was anything else lurking under the hood. That is until you press the fun pedal, which is when the true Jekyll and Hyde nature of the beast is revealed. If you ever have need of a highly responsive tuner that knows his shit, look no further than Avtandil and ABP; I can't recommend him enough. Our final numbers on full E-85 were 707WHP and 687WTQ, and it feels absolutely ass-puckeringly quick. I picked up a Draggy box over the weekend, so my next adventure will be seeing how she hooks up on the street with some 60-130 times. All in all, I couldn't be happier with the results.

Looking back at the logs, we ended at around 29/30lbs with 17 degrees of timing at the top of the run. He did add an additional 2 degrees at 6k after our final pull that we unfortunately didn't get a chance to run as the session was running over schedule, but it was solid the whole way through.
There might have been more left on the plate as WGDC still had some room, but with the stock bottom end I wanted to build in some margin for error as opposed to riding the edge.

Awesome thread nice to see some real world results... I will say those catted dp’s appear to be robbing a decent amount of power but what is 50hp when u have over 700 and no smell better sound etc nice to see this setup I bet it feels sweet

Although, there is something we wanted to bring to your attention that was referenced in the last post about your catted downpipes. We noticed you have AR Catted Downpipes as part of your mods list. Unless we're mistaken and they have recently changed the high flow catalytic they are using, it seems that all their catted downpipes are using a Magnaflow 200 cell catalytics. Unfortunately, many people in the performance industry associate all 200 cell catalytics as high performance racing cats and that simply is not the case. Specifically, these 200 cell Magnaflow catalytics we're referring to were never designed for high performance modified turbocharged engines which can be verified with Magnaflow directly. On a stock non-modified vehicle you may gain a few hp over a stock catalytic. However, you will get severe power loss and possible engine damage on a modified turbocharged vehicle with the Magnaflow 200 cell catalytics installed in the downpipe. Seeing as how they were never designed or intended to be used on such high pressure and high heat applications, they eventually break apart or melt which results in turbocharger failure, engine damage, or both. This usually happens much sooner than later based on our information from many shops we've spoken to that have had the same issues occur. If in fact your catalytics are a Magnaflow 200 cell, we would advise to replace them immediately. This can be verified by the part number engraved on the catalytic which should read 59959 for the 3" inlet/outlet version. If you still wish to run a high flow 200 cell catalytic, then we would recommend a HJS catalytic. They are quite expensive, but they are woven from the highest quality material and specifically designed for high performance modified racing applications. Just as reference, this dyno shown below is from a simple FBO M3 6spd (Catless Downpipes) with stock engine and stock intercooler/heat exchanger with a set of our KRAS55Bi's on pump E85 and HCP tune at 32psi. This was from 3 years ago, so of course this car had PI for fueling and not EU5's with lift kit or upgraded HPFP's. This particular car has over 30K daily driven miles at this power level with no mechanical issues. You'll notice that the power and torque were limited before 4500rpm, mainly to limit wheel spin as well as to keep the stock connecting rods safe. You'll also notice how the car revs to 7500rpm with no power drop off as well as how well the torque remains pretty flat through out the powerband. Compare this to yours that has almost identical components with the exception of PI vs. EU5 with Dorch Lift Kit. Of course this car was running 2psi more, but that won't make up for the 150whp/130wtq difference at 7500rpm. This is not to say that we recommend this power level for everyone on a stock engine for daily use. However, you can see the capabilities and potential for what can be accomplished with the right components. Even if you are happy with your current power output, we would still highly recommend that you check your catalytics to make sure they are not the Magnaflow version we discussed. If so, swap them out or remove them as soon as possible as this will save you tons of money and headaches in the end. |
