i took off my trunk liner and inspected. i m pretty sure my wiring is not the same as the EAS so the coding in first post probably wont work for me, it didnt tap the outside lamp but i saw from the left inner lamp have a green wire that goes down to battery REM and a red wire that goes down to battery rem as well

given the below im 90% sure i have all the necessary wiring but just missing coding. however my harness color also doesnt match the oem retro harness 61122410220 which shows green and blue

first photo shows the left wiring harness with green cable from left inner lamp
second photo s hows the right wiring harness with red cable from right inner lamp
third photo shows green cable goes to A174 12b
fourth photo shows red cable goes to A174 14b

Thank you guys. I followed the original post and added expert mode 56 line modification through BimmerCode with OEM harness (not tapped) and all works as expected. Including inner turn signals.

I just tried this on my 2016 f82 and followed all coding through bimmercode expert mode. No errors in the mmi but my inner break lamps or inner turn signals are not working. Any input?

No, REM software needs to be updated. Working to have this remotely updated

my harness is black and red instead of black and green like most of these- Ebay harness. Anyone use this particular harness? I'd imagine i'd follow the same instructions, except red=green

it doesn't matter the colour of the harness. just connect to correct pin in REM.

On my tail lamps, the connectors were different (the original wiring plugs for the lights). The old wiring plugs wouldn’t fit into the new tail lamps. I bought my lights as a kit with a completely new (genuine OEM BMW) loom which made it plug and play and it was a very easy swap.
How are others dealing with the plugs if using your existing loom? (Just interested)

As a first post in this forum: Thank you everybody for you help on sorting out the lights upgrade codes!

I've also made the swap on my 2015 model cars twice. With the OEM cable loom for the boot lights, camera and switches. But in both cases the inner (boot) brake and signal lights don't work during normal operation. Also in the video posted above of the DIY cable splicing, the inner boot lights don't light up in the final test.

I'm not entirely sure there is even a brake-light source in the modules(?) If it is, doesn't it only light up as area enlargement on emergency braking / emergency stop? This thread is the only confirmed internet sighting i have of the boot signal lights lighting up, but these are not the OEM spec LCI lights. https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1609323
On a car that is factory delivered with LCI lights, they do light up. So it should be possible:

From your post I understand that you have gotten those lights to work during normal operation? Do you have photo's / video? And can anybody tell me how a factory-LCI delivered vehicle functions on these boot lights?

I have written down the defaults set on my car with the old factory lights before coding. On paper, which I will copy for the people who need it to revert back without a backup.

Here is a photo to clarify the parts of the boot modules that don't light up in normal signal operation and alarm signal operation. Using the original OEM LCI cable loom (convertible f83) and all the codings mentioned in this forum thread using bimmercode app and vgate wifi2.

When I did this retrofit on my F32 I also used the OEM cable which was 100% plug and play, physically at least. At first only outer blinkers worked, not the inners. I found that since my car was a 2014 I needed to update the i-step version of the REM to at least a 2016 version, and then instead of manually coding all the parameters individually what you do is modify the VO, there is a section called 'HO-WORT' and you add the word 'HELC' to it. HELC is the option code for the LCI taillight retrofit. After that you can VO your REM and it will automatically apply the correct LCI tail parameters.

You need to update the software on your REM module (this cannot be done with Bimmercode). This is typical of early 14/15 models that never went through any updates.

Once updated, the CELIS portion of the taillights will activate.

I have a MY16 F82 and just did the Euro LCI retrofit. Everything works with the exception of the inner turn signals. Is there anyway to get this working without E-Sys? I have been reading conflicting information on here as to what can be done with Bimmercode.

I don't think you can without e-sys. As your car is already 2016 your REM should have the correct software version but I suspect you need to edit your VO as I described a few posts up.

You will need eSys for this. Bimmercode is very limited in features, it cannot perform updates or modify VO.

Thank you for this clear answer. Is there a DIY way or piece of affordable hardware I can use to update the software of the REM? Or is this something I should go to the dealership for?

Terms Like e-Sys and VO used here are not easy to google, can someone explain or write out what these stand for? Also for HELC and HO-WORT a more descriptive explaination would be welcome for the noobs

REM = Rear Electronic Module
FEM = Front Electronic Module

Thank you for this great resource of reading materials. After an initial scan of the first view links, I think I might go on to decide it is not for me to learn all this myself and I will try and find someone who can help me locally to get my signal lights to light up. Just to make sure I don't brick my car.

Also to get things clear for other people who find this thread later on. After installation of the lights and the newer cable for said lights. The computer needs to be updated for the inner (boot)lights to work for signal and breaking.

I cannot seem to find any clear answer on what this update is or where it can be obtained. Of course a dealer can sort this out, but this is a DYI Thread.
Bimmercode doesn't help in this case. But so far I haven't found a conclusive mention/followthrough on how it can be done with E-SYS and an ENET cable?

Is there a certain software package that should be flashed in the REM, or ECU? Or is it just a change of settings? Who can help out make this thread complete and get my lights working the way they should?
