Redline Speed Worx (RSW) Mineral White M4 Build Thread
Some of you may have seen in some of our postings recently that we have acquired a new shop/development vehicle. After pushing the TTRS to, and at times past it’s limits we have decided to move onto a new platform and the M4 was our choice.
The M3 has been the measuring stick for sports cars for years. Although it may upset some of the purists from a driving standpoint you won’t find too many complaints from us. Big Brakes, Check. Big wheels/Tires, Check. Big Grilles with plenty of inlets, Check. Coming up for our first round of modifications is going to be a set of HRE FlowForm Wheels and a set of H&R Sport lowering springs. We might have some Dinan goodies and maybe an even some Exterior pieces on the way right now... Please let us know what you think as we move forward with the modifications, if you have questions about anything please don't hesitate to email, pm, or call at 908 223 7477 Stay tuned….. |

HRE Flow Forms Mounted!!!!
Although we loved how the car looked stock, wheels are always a great first place to start for modifications. They play such a large part in how the car looks and can drastically change the appearance of the car.
For our Mineral White M4 we decided to with Gloss Black HRE FF01’s with 12mm all around and H&R Sport Springs. The wheels are 19 inches in diameter and make use of the stock tires. Knowing certain drivers affinity for burnouts we know the stockers won’t last too long here…. We decided to take some pictures of the car before we added the M performance exterior pieces to get an idea of how much the wheels change the stance/look of the car. The decreased wheel gap and wider footprint looks great. Gives the car a squat, aggressive look, whilst not attracting too much attention. We think the black wheels contrast well with the white paint on the car, what do you guys think? Stay tuned for updates after we add some M Performance Carbon Fiber pieces and a Dinan Free Flow Exhaust. |

Thanks!
Thanks saxon!!!
We are going to go with Dinan's Dinantronics offering to start! We have recently become a Dinan dealer and after seeing the harnesses and boxes hands-on it looks like it's going to be tough to beat. We are well aware that there are lots of other products on the market, but at the end of the day we have decided that keeping the OEM warranty intact is going to be more important to our customers than a handful of horsepower. We will definitely keep you guys in the loop once the engine mods get underway!!! |

Ok, wheels, springs, check. Time to make this thing a little meaner, it needs to make some more noise and is missing a little “edge”. We think an exhaust might help this!
There are some perks to operating an aftermarket performance shop. Every now and then, if you do your job right you get offers from industry leaders to partner with them. Luckily for us Dinan happened to reach out to us to see if we wanted to be involved with their distribution network. We chose to install the Black Tip Stainless Steel Free Flow Exhaust system. It fits and is built to OEM level specifications and retains the valve for active sound control. The difference in sound between open and closed is amazing, the car really goes from daily driver to race car at a touch of a button...... Now to make this car look as mean as it sounds! Although the M4 is pretty mean out of the box we think it needs a bit more bark to go with its bite. Luckily for us there is a good source for reasonably priced high quality carbon fiber pieces. BMW Performance has a whole line of goodies that we can choose from. The best part about all these pieces is that since they are made by BMW, they fit perfectly. No gaps or uneven bodylines, just perfect fitment all around. With aftermarket carbon fiber accessories it’s very rare that you get pieces that fit properly. Between the design and manufacturing process there are so many things that can go wrong. To make a consistent product lots of time must be spent producing proper molds. Lots of the cheap pieces you see being sold and marketed for your car look great from 20 feet away or at 20mph but when you get up close the lines are wavy, they don’t fit flush with the body panels, and the quality of the finish isn’t very good. Please let us know what you think as we move forward with the modifications, if you have questions about anything please don't hesitate to email, pm, or call at 908 223 7477 Will have a mini shoot with some photos of our M4 and a customers car coming up shortly.... |

Sorry guys, gunna warn you up front, this one is going to be media intensive….. Customers Car on Satin Bronze R101 HRE’s Shop Car on Tarmac Black HRE FF01’s We know we are far from the only guys people out there with a mineral white M4 but there's something about having more than one of these cars together that makes them seem a bit more special. Usually when you have more than one of something the unique features get lost but when we had one of our long time customer come in to get some new wheels mounted we couldn’t help but pull the shop car in after hours to take some photos of both cars together. The differences between the lighting and the wheels makes the subtle styling cues and flares of the fenders pop. Stay tuned for some KW Suspension updates soon!!!! |

KW V3's INCOMING
Our current car is already lowered on springs, but after driving on the car for a few weeks it is clear that the stock struts are not paired well with the lowering springs. For those looking to lower their car on a budget it is an acceptable solution but for making the most out of the car on the street and track we have elected to go with some KW V3’s.
This is how they show up, direct from KW. Look at how the items are packaged. Nothing can get damaged in transport. The instruction booklet and adjustment tool sit on top of foam wrapping over the springs, the DDC deletes and associated hardware sit in a box between the perches and on top of the strut mounts, the coil overs are all held securely in place with strong corrugated cardboard braces…. The way KW packages its product is a feat of engineering in itself. You can tell this company is ran by engineers not accountants, and for us, that’s a very good thing. This is KW’s tried and tested V3 coil over kit. One of the best parts about ordering a KW product is that every nut, bolt, and zip tie will be included in the box. These in particular need to delete the DDC modules, of course they are included. Even the instruction booklet and adjuster tool get their own dedicated case. Do you think KW cares about the product they offer? WE THINK SO! Stay tuned for updates on how this car compares to both the H&R Springs we have on the car now versus the HAS Spring kits we have installed on customer cars. If you have any questions don’t hesitate PM, Post, or call us at 908 223 7477. |

Performance Validation...
This past weekend we were invited out to Monticello Motor Club by one of our customers. We were thrilled on the opportunity and jumped on it as we know that Monticello is a member’s only track and getting an invite was not something to pass up. So we strapped the M4 down in the trailer at around 530 AM to begin our day. For those that have raced they know that theres something about the strapping down and packing up that is ritualistic. Everybody has their own way of packing their gear, its part of the process. After unloading at any racetrack part of my ritual is to make the rounds to see what and who else is out there. Always good to know what to look out for on track. Upon arriving at the track I took some time to familiarize myself with the layout of the course, my assigned instructor for the day, and of course checking into the other machinery I would be sharing the track with. 996 GT3 Cup : I have a huge softspot for these cars. People like to call them the ugly ducklings with those front headlights but to me there is something so raw to these cars. Not to mention all the GT3 race spec suspension components fix the front end issues associated with this chassis. This one particular Radical caught my eye …. : The end result of wickedly aggressive motorsports features being blended into an organic street-legal shape. Very impressive car. The M4 looked at home parked up against the pit wall… Here it is again looking at the Radical’s parked in the hanger with a bit of an evil grin! Although not the first time at the track for me, it was a new experience to drive the M4 on the track, and to drive at Monticello, so the first few sessions were relatively slow paced and easy. The KW coil overs were absolutely great on track, the car felt very composed when putting down power in bumpy sections. There is one high speed section where there is a blind crest and the car felt planted even at 130+, the way the car transition the weight from side to side and reacted to both throttle and braking input was nice and predictable. This is one of the many 991 GT3’s we got to share the track with: 458 Speciale: Our good friend, and customer in his RSW modified 991 GT3: We were really quite blown away with the M4’s ability to not only keep up, but sometimes outpace the 991 GT3’s on track. The car handled remarkably well, it rolled a bit but once it got seated it was very stable on the limit. The car would just get loaded up and sit there, no squirming around, no twitchy steering inputs needed just a nice progressive and reactive handling car. The howling abuse of the Michelins was evident by blue hue and rough texture by the end of the day. The car was being driven harder than the tires were made for. Hunter becoming the Hunted: By the 3rd and 4th sessions after finding my bearings both with the car and the track it was time to push it to the limit. In attempt to get there we began to find the limitations of the stock brake pads, the tires, and perhaps front end grip. The M4 from the factory is setup with a fair amount of understeer built into the chassis. Between the alignment specs and the large staggering of tire widths front to back it’s easy to see that BMW wanted to keep these cars on the road and not in the trees. The car handled neutrally, with perhaps a bit of a tendency towards understeer, and the engine and temps were able to produce consistent and reliable power throughout the day. Over the previous months the car has transformed from bone stock to being a fairly serious backroad warrior. With the assistance of Dinan Dinantronics, Dinan Exhaust, KW V3 Coilovers, and a set of HRE wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires we wanted to see exactly what it could do. We were curious as to how the suspension would cope with the demands of the road course, and if the Dinan Tune would prove too much for the OEM cooling system. With anything automotive you have to test product in real world scenarios for valuable data Not too surprisingly, everything worked out great. Before exploring with changing major parts we are going to go back to the alignment rack and see if we can achieve the desired balance we want without changing the front tire sizing. I think that between a more aggressive pad materials, some track spec fluid, and some minor tweaks the car can be a lot more fun. We knew going in to this day that the brakes were going to be one of the weak points but it’s always prudent in our experience to actually see for yourself. Stay tuned for further upgrades to the Red Line Speed Worx M4. Thanks to HRE Wheels, KW Suspensions, and Dinan engineering for always supplying our vehicles and our customers with the best designed products in the marketplace. Please pm, call, or email to get information on any parts featured in this article or for work on your own vehicle! Last edited by SALES@RSW; 08-26-2015 at 10:02 AM.. |

If you are going to take the car out to the track again I would highly encourage you to add the Dinan rear suspension link kit. You will be amazed at how much more control you will get out the rear end of the car. Makes track day fun much more enjoyable since you feel safe pushing the car harder.

We agree! We are going to toy with the settings a little bit more to establish a solid baseline for what the car can achieve with just minor modifications and tuning, but once we do that I think we will need to dial in more adjust-ability and less deflection with that rear link kit. If you're feeling generous, you have our address!!! |
