Did this mod today... 3 Clicks zero to very little clunk on cobblestone streets, no noticeable steering tightness.

Im thinking perhaps you need very little looseness to avoid steering gear bind, frankly to hear the rattle now I have to turn radio off and really look for it.

Thanks Racer20!

This was pretty much the exact same thing that happened to my e92 m3, tightened a bolt underneath the car on the steering rack and clunk was gone!

Just had my tech Luc@Speed&Tech do this for me. Quiet as church mouse so far. Unbelievable. Steering is slightly stiffer as others mentioned, but that's a small price to pay for your sanity. Now, bring on dem road bumps, haha. #tearsofjoy.

Going to the dealer tomorrow and will have them try this. My car only has 11k miles on it, Ď19 F87 M2C with pretty much the same exact issue.

Hoping they listen to what Iím saying and also fix it under warranty. I was previously on KW V3, but Iíve since switched to stock suspension and it still makes the noise. Thought it was a trim panel but took that out and still get the noise. This is really really promising though.

Take out that progressive springs and install eibach with 1cm shorter bump stop, you can cut it and you will run the car like oem. I was in your situation one week ago and i am happy now with linear springs from eibach.(that clunk and bouncy ride as in first video)

I was thinking the same thing, that this was an issue for some on the E9X M3 platform.

Hopefully people donít go gorilla with this fix and overdo the number of notch turns.

Awesome work to Racer20 and some supporting info from Encanto. I can tell from Racer20ís posts, mustíve been a history major and not an engineer lol.

I have a different type of rattle after doing this but I think the bolt may have been overtightened. Going to loosen it a bit tonight and see if that works.

Is this low speed clunk that you are referring to this kind of that i have in my video that i took took from my car? This can be fixed only by tightening the steering rack bolt?

Clunk video:

My clunk is coming from front drivers side and can only be heard when driving low speeds and on a rough surface or speed bumps. It can't be heard if road surface is normal or the car is cold. BMW dealer say that sound is coming from steering rack and their fix is to replace the whole steering rack (which is about 4000$ part).

So 95% of the driving this canít be heard. Would not want to change the whole expensive steering rack.

^ if BMW/extended warranty is footing the bill, let them. If not, suggest you share this info with them or do this yourself and see if it resolves the issue.

Going to try this once I get back from the lake. Any idea though what would cause this after installing aftermarket suspension components? It sounds like for most people, the noise starts after messing with the suspension. It certainly did for me.

Has anybody reported this on the passenger side? I have eibach V2 springs and ground control camber plates. I just went through and checked the torque on the plates. Everything looks good. A friend of mine checked out the sway bar end links, control arms, etc for play and we didn't find anything.

Thinking this may be it
