thicker tires for f80 saloon
Whats up ladies an Gents.Im looking to go up to 40 instead of the stock 35's on the front and rear,Does anyone know if that's fine or if i'll be rubbing against the wheel wells or not? I live in NYC and them potholes can be killers, I tend to think the 35 is to low profile for these streets.Any insight or advice would be well appreciated. Thanks a ahead of time and look fwd to your replies.

One of the most common moves is to increase the width of the tire which will simultaneously increase it's height at the same sidewall ratio (i.e. 35).
So, for example, it's common for people with 19" stock wheels to move to 275/35/19 fronts and 295/35/19 rears. This has the effect of increasing the stock sidewall height by ~7mm or about 1/4". And it fits fine stock. And it adds more rubber laterally on the road - which is both a plus and a minus. |

Curious to what the greatest overall diameter tire you can run as well. 275/35/19 fronts = 26.58 and 295/35/19 rear = 27.13 with is about 1/2" larger than stock, 1/4" additional radius as JoeFromPA said.
I had done the same thing with my E39, I ran Michi PSSes a full series up to give almost 1/2" more radius. No fitment issues even slightly lowered on coilovers. It really soaked up crap NJ roads. Edit: Pondering 275/40/18 on an 18x9.5 wheel = 26.7", or maybe as far as 255/45/18 on an 18x9 = 27.0" up front for a cold weather set. Too much up front? Thanks for the suggestions and info for alternates over the PSS. I did not plan on running them on the M3. I have Conti EC Sports on the stock 19s as the current summer set. And if I were to replace them it would be something equally grippy, grippier than PSS. Looking for a cold weather ( no snow duty ) set atm, and was probably going with Mich PS AS3+. |

That being said, I think 18s suit the M3 much better than the M4. I can see why someone would go with 19s on the M4, but to me the comp pack 20s are gaudy, just not for me. But that's why there's something for everyone. |

Could you? maybe. Should you? No, get some 18s if you want to run 40 profile. |

The rear wheel gap always bothered me because its noticeably wider than the front tires. This post by CanAutM3 explained and helped me a lot in deciding my next tire size.

I've been searching for this too and finally try it myself.
255/40R19 + 275/40/R19 - no rubbing, works very well. You can feel more sidewall movement and car became more comfortable. It is what i've been looking for winter. It works better on snow/icy road. Of course on summer tire it doesn't make much sense but if you try to have some more grip in winter condition it works. (Sorry for pictures quality) |
