Nice. What model did you go with? I'm contemplating test-driving an SI. I need a car that's going to be great on fuel because I'm about to start driving 300+ miles a week for work. I've seen averages on the SI ranging in the low 40's and I definitely want to get back into a car with a manual.

random thoughts: they are great on fuel. almost best in class iirc. very efficient and I stand on the rev limiter at least once a day. after 8 yrs of driving FR and RR platforms I can say that the torque steer is damn awful on this FF. worse than most AWD cars too. the rev hang is like waiting to board a plane in-between gears. Now it will take a beating and start every day without a hiccup. the shift gate is extremely close together (4th visually looks like 2nd). The shift hardware/bushings have been adopted from the type-r. Notchy AF but very satisfying. It will haul anything. the tires are hilariouly absolutely shite but they remind me to be more patient with my inputs. it's a great looking car. seats have no lumber so if you need it, get an amazon pillow. nothing else really leases cheap anymore. I think unmodded and unmolested, it'll last forever.

i went with the sport cvt. I was originally going to go for a base LX... but the sport gets the nice 18s, upgraded stereo, remote start, and leather steering wheel. for only 1500 extra it was a no brainer. sport is 26,600

the SI would probably be my pick at 30k. it gets the bose stereo which i think is a major option and one i wish the sport had. the touring model's leather, extra sound deadening, and heated seats aren't really a big deal imo. plus the SI badge holds value.

Found a cousin to this Fire Orange M4...

I'd like to find the VIN because it's a US import in Germany which means it had been auctioned off as a wreck before making its way to Europe and getting rebuilt somewhere - usually Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, etc.

One of 26 and here's an identically spec'd car.

Looks tasty as hell in orange still

Based on that and just tallying up what I spend each month on vehicles as transportation and toys (about $4K for a Ram 2500, an X5, and a 911, including insurance and maintenance) is making me think it’s time to optimize. I’m considering selling the truck (I can rent one when I need it) and trading the 911 for a G80 M3Cx or Integra Type-S that I can use as a dual-purpose daily driver and track day car. That would save me $1500-$2000/mo. If I want to get back into something more intense I might get into Spec Corvette, Spec Miata, or Spec E46.

Thoughts?
Congrats on your first child! I've been looking for a car to replace my F80 M3 and had been looking at Integra Type S, but they are hard to find, they won't really let you test drive any because they are all spoken for and they want ADM... which puts the car at about $60K... which is insane.

So I stumbled upon a fully loaded 6 mo old CPO 23 X3 M40i and jumped on it for $65K. For only $5K more than what they want for an Integra Type S, it will blow away a Type S in acceleration, get better gas mileage and is vastly more usable. The interior also feels much better than the Integra, which feels like a $35K car whereas the X3 feels like a $70K car in terms of build quality, leather, interior materials, and tech. BMW's iDrive 7 is the pinnacle of UI IMO because it has all the latest tech, but is also the very last generation with all physical buttons. The Integra's tiny screen and rudimentary menus and tech feels like a cheaper Honda Civic... which it is, though the Integra's ELS stereo is pretty incredible and better than BMW's HK. Still can't stomach paying $60k for a Type S though.

But I'm keeping my 992S manual. If I was getting rid of my Porsche, I'd probably get a G80 M3 comp xdrive.

Oh just random update.

I spoke to the GSM before his trip to Europe for some Porsche training thing about if he has heard anything regarding the 992.2 being all hybrids and he said no, there have been no indication from Porsche the .2 would be all hybrids. It could maybe just be the Turbo or Porsche could have something else up their sleeves.

He also don't know how many S/Ts they are getting but one for certain is reserved for the 918 owner while their Dakar has been delayed close to a year due to the special paint thing you can get with them.

My 4RS was delayed again and now end of November but I am pretty certain that is going to change. My current educated guess is December or January 2024 just because of what I keep seeing. In fact, our Macan GTS will be here before my GT4RS.

Also, waiting on CanAutM3 and more trip photos

I was thinking of doing that too, but it is just across the city. My detailer told me one of the companies my dealership told me about, he had customers use to transport stuff to him so... I may use it. A single trailer thing.

Just to clarify, right now car is supposed to finish assembly on October 13th while arrival to dealership November 24th. I literally don't believe that is going to happen if the guys in front of me aren't finished yet either.

IOMG Curse continues

Not a full job...but I'll label it under the IOMG curse. Went to chiro and acupuncture to get all untweaked, came out to this!

Was backed into by work truck in Manhattan Beach. Thankfully, Skechers security cams had footage and homeowner was able to track down the worker who said he waited for 30 minutes but had to go to another job. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because there's nothing I can do now as the damage is done. His insurance, AAA, said there's a decent chance damage will be above his policy's coverage. Both doors are out of whack and can't be opened (rear door appeared fine but it's lifted in the back). So untweaked me became retweaked me climbing over the center to get in. Windows go up/down.

So, both doors and all the blending means I get to have a half repainted car. Fun times!

Yikes. Sorry to read that, Fugly. Find a great body shop and you'll never be able to tell it happened.

Dropping at the dealer/BMWUSA listed place tomorrow. I have no idea how great they are...but it doesn't matter with me. Once it's in my head, it's in my head. I'm super upset, but not end of the world upset like I'd have been with the M2C. Biggest problem is I keep my cars about 2 years before I get bored and move on and there's no way to do that without taking a huge hit.

May not be the most morally responsible thing to do, but there is a lag between damage repair and Carfax listing the damage. So, I have sold a car in the past literally the week I got it back from accident damage and received a great trade in offer.

Also, all but 2 of the used cars I've bought have had a clean carfax, but signs of accident damage, so there's that...

Oh good lord that color does really seem to be cursed.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of paint damage so that is a plus hope for the best when it comes to fixing it.

yeah i'd try and unload it before carfax dings it. no sympathy for dealerships here. you might also try getting a diminished value claim through the other parties insurance, but that seems like a headache.

Have my 992 brethren seen this? Techart coming through with the quality duck bill. I am interested in seeing what it looks like without the carbon fiber end trim.
