F90 M5 Comp & F82 M4 Comp
I've driven the F90 M5 Comp on the track before, and the thing on the track is that no matter how powerful a car is, it isn't powerful enough...
Finally drove the F90 in a civilian setting the other day-----and holy sh!t The car has an insane amount of power. Going from an F82 M4 Comp, the power difference is extremely noticeable. You'll be doing about 15MPH more in the M5 at any given stretch assuming both cars are being driven to the limit. I don't know why people on this forum refer to the M5 as dull, that is absolutely not the case. I think it's exactly how an M version of the 5 series should be like. The F82 is a lot more "raw" which is great, the M5 is a different, more sophisticated animal. The handling was very good too, I was not disappointed. I was disappointed with the transmission though, I think the DCT is vastly better, and I did think the car would perform much better with a DCT, as the ZF8 does seem to struggle a bit with that level of power. Overall great car, definitely a viable replacement for the F82 in my case. The LCI has a menacing look in person. I think it looks much better than the non-LCI model. M5 is a boat compared to F8x.
Its much more detached experience and a lot More luxurious. Both cars have different objectives imo. M5 is much better suited for 100+mph runs on highways while sipping on your expresso. |

Agree on the overall impression of the F90. More buttoned up version of the F8x. Not quite as frenetic or tossable, but still an absolute monster. Very different cars. Quick test drive of the Comp had me sold. On my short list to replace my F80 now. I think folks either don't know how to throttle the car, or just buy it for the badge? Only thing keeping me from making it my #1 choice is I already drive too fast in my F80. No clue what I would do with all that power from the S63. Looking at the RS5, and F97 too.
DCT would make the F90 *too good*

Love the F90. Such a great car.
Right now I am enjoying the rawness of the 2018 ZCP m3 with MPE and a 6sp manual. M5 is a different but not a lesser experience. The way it accelerates is pretty amazing. Last edited by Keca10; 10-17-2020 at 12:46 AM.. |

I went from my F82 M4 to F90 M5, and I obsoletely love it!
Each has it's pros and cons. But I'm really enjoying putting the beast power down with the AWD system in the M5, along with a nice sounding V8. |

It would be more “dull” to me solely for the fact that I require 3 pedals for my fun car. With that said, I think it’s a beast and I wouldn’t hesitate to own one as my ‘main’ car with a sportier/tossable manual to pair with it.

Its a good looking car, but my love for the M5 ended after the E60 generation finished production.

I felt this way about the F10 M5 I had. Insane power, but it felt just like a fast 5 series. Now the E60 M5 I had on the other hand...

The lease on my f80 is almost due. Clearly not going the g80 route. I just drove the 21 M5 Comp...it looks great in person and yeah it's a complete monster.

I am strongly considering an F90 for my F80's successor but haven't had the opportunity to drive one yet. It is taking every ounce of willpower in me to hold off on the test drive because I have a feeling that if I went, I'd be sold.
Awesome, awesome cars. |

I think people here (myself included) find the 550 dull, but not the M5.
Many here (myself included) find the M5 rather large however. And the M5 in the pic is stunning.

I'm in the same boat and just can't move from my F8X M4 to the new G80.
For all you M5 owners, how is the steering? My M4's steering is "fake" but it's a manual so the car is still super fun. Moving on to an automatic with "fake" steering isn't something I'm too keen on but the size and AWD tempting. |
