Thinking of switching from M4 to M2 - Opinions?

I'd like to get some input from you guys (Before it's mentioned- I know, the only opinion that should matter, is mine) but there are some great promotions and interest rates right now on 18' models and it's having me contemplate a switch from an M4 to an M2 (non-competition), and I'd like to know what my fellow M pals would do.

The idea of having an extra 500$ of disposable income every month (lower car payment/lower insurance payment) would be nice.

Since most here drive an F8X, would anybody consider the smaller brother M2 for this kind of discount? Dealership would let me out of my lease 7 months early.

I don't "need" the extra money every month, but it's 6k more per year to play with and I do like the sound of that. I love my M4, I wonder if it's worth the switch... would you?

I was thinking about it when they first came out but after spending two days in a M2 at M school I dont think I would be able to make the move. It was a blast to drive dont get me wrong but TBH just was a tad too small for me and my lifestyle and I enjoyed the cabin of my M4s over the M2.

just my personal thoughts. We have had a few customers make the move and love it, but for me I would not enjoy it as much as I enjoy my M4.

The M2 is a fun car. Not sure what options you have on your M4 but if you spec'd it out fully loaded you might miss those creature comforts going to the M2.

Interesting! I own the M2 but the M4 is probably a better car. But 500$ is a good amount. Very tough question.

Personally I would swap!

I've considered swapping to the M2 as I prefer a smaller and lighter car to drive as daily.

Unfortunately the lack of creature comforts is what worries me. And the smaller fuel tank in winter.

I did the move from my 2015 M4 to a new M2C and after a couple of weeks I am not disappointed with my decision. I always found the M4 large compared to my previous cars and missing a few features is not a big deal to me.I really like the harder edged feel of the M2C and it really reminds me of the E36 Euro M3's of the early 90's but with a lot more power.

You'll have to change your name

I don't think I could make the move after driving the M2, it was super fun on the track though. If you like it go for it man, they're all fun and great cars.

Go this route only:

1. Test drive, for a day or two. Do you like it? If yes, follow step 2. If no, stick with M4.

2. $500 is a good saving. Did you say 7 months early out of your lease so that's $3,500. Why not jump into a new car?

3. Sign another lease and enjoy the M2 for 3 years.

3.5. Return M4 and sell me your diffuser and other mods at a substantial discount for solving your problem.

4. Test drive the new GX M series.

5. Enter into a new lease or otherwise if you miss M4, go for Porsche.

6. You only win in this scenario.

Keen investigative skills should provide a clue to which route I chose.

I would like to thank everyone for their valued input and suggestions.

I'm feeling very happy with the decision, I hope it holds!

Many Thanks

I have both (M2 Lci - M4 Zcp) of them and they are different cars. M2 with N55 sounds better, feels nimble&lighter and handles fine on the road. Engine and chasis both work very well in the M2. Its better for daily driving because of its size. M4 feels more powerful and comfortable when compared to M2.

I mean $500 savings would have me LOVING an M2 lol so you did the right thing, coming from an M4 owner that does not love the design of the M2 unless its covered in Vorsteiner parts

Congrats on the great deal!

$500 savings per month is a big deal, M2 seems like the right choice.

I drove the M2 as DD and moved to M4 Comp. as my DD, M2 is an animal, M4 Comp. is a beast 😉
In my eyes you can‘t really compare those two.
M4 Comp. is a lot faster, sounds better, better inter., better seats and a ton more options. M2 is the perfect car in its class, if you like rear wheel drive and 6 cyl. but it is not really lighter than a M4. I liked my M2 but love my M4 Comp. - Beast Mode on! 😃

Great choice. For $500/month, I will go with the M2 too.

Just my $0.02 but I would have gone with e46m versus m2

Big cost savings, and unclear if there are any performance trade offs.

And you get an actual "s" engine

FYI, M2 competition curb weight manual = 3600 lbs
M4 manual = 3625 lbs

I'll give you smaller dimensionally, but not lighter.

I was only considering the non competition M2. 150lbs difference.

I went from F80 (M3) to Cayman to M2 and I honestly don't miss the F80 at all. I think the Cayman palate cleanser helped, but the M2 fits my needs as a quick enough, fun daily that I can track on occasion. Plus, compared to the Cayman, the M2 is LOADED lol the heated steering wheel and back-up camera are the two biggest creature comforts I missed. I don't miss HUD or the Merino leather, TBH.

How do you like the seats in the non comp M2? They are fugly compared to the M4 and look cheap as hell and that was one of my main concerns about the M2 so interested to know.

Interesting that you don’t miss the F80 at all either - I agree the Cayman is a bit bare bones and I wouldn’t be able to pull the trigger on one.
