I believe both are great cars that have different focus. As has been historically, the M3(4) is more track focused with a stronger emphasis on handling and the C63 is more of a luxo-cruiser with a stronger straight line capability. Both remained true to their roots and we should celebrate that we have such wonderful products to choose from.

The RC-F on the other hand...
You don't think that is a wee bit silly? The F80 is down 80 HP, the only place it won't win is a comparo with long straights as it shouldn't given a massive power disadvantage. Doesn't sound to me like Benz did much in the handling department at all given those were the parts that were touted.

I don't think that statement is silly. There will be comparos that aren't solely based on lap times. The C63 shines daily driving (aka luxo-cruiser). Like the W204 vs E9x, there will be comparos were the C63 comes out on top. In fact I think there already are.

I know this... in fact, I can attest to this... read my review in the other thread as I drove one... however that is not what is being discussed here, my expectation given all of the improvements in handling and the fact that the car has 80 more HP... kind of make the C63s look weak as an overall performance vehicle.

I just cant see anyone walking into the dealership and choosing the base over the S. Especially the types of people who buy these cars. Weird decision for this car, even though I really love it.

precision always beats brute power...not to mention that stock m3 underrated and is really close to 500 HP

merc is a great car but i think merc does a poor job at design of AMG for C and E classes, they look like regular cars. M3 is vastly different from a 3 series

If the C63S wins along the straights than the M3 is not underrated.

Can't believe MB put the shift stick right there in C63, looks like a mini van, terrible.

the f80 is also almost 400lb lighter on the scales as well. if you are looking at sheer hp you will have a false understanding on why one is faster than the other on the track. as much as people seem to forget weight is almost if not more important then power on the track. the M3 is just a more balanced car on the track and rock out the turns but no one can deny the sheer grunt of even the last gen c63 that with a tune will still run with a f80.

I would say C63S did great. With a panoramic roof and luxurious interior and an MCT, had only 0.7 s difference with a car (CF roof, DCT, underrated) that pride itself on its track performance.

You might be right. I was talking about the dyno sheets we've seen here.

On a short track like this, 0.7 seconds is massive, believe it or not. Especially considering the HP differences.

Both great cars. We can (and will ) debate at length which is better but I don't know if there is a "better" in this case. Better for me might not be better for someone else. If anything, it is probably the closest the cars have been to one another in a long time.

Definitely correct. That happened before with W204. Some tracks will go to the C63S some will go to the M3/4. After a bit of time in the car, I think MB is trying to completely distance the C63/S from the M3/M4 and not compete with it anymore. There is no denying, when it comes to tight corners the M3 really shines.

that would be more impressive if these cars weighed the same but they don't .7 seconds even with more power reflects weight. that literally can be the difference between braking coming to a turn and power coming out the turn where grip is at it's least.

80 horsepower difference and 80 kg difference. I do think that the horsepower is more relevant, as that caused the car to rocket in the straight. I get your point, but the C63 should have been able to regain the advantage in the straight which the M3 obtains in corners, even with the 80 KG weight surplus in the C63. It is obvious that the C63 is more road oriented though, you can see it due to the narrow rear track and tires.

The time was lost coming out of the corner, trying to put the power down. The C63 is more tail happy on corner exit.

It is obvious that the C63 is more road oriented though, you can see it due to the narrow rear track and tires. And I guess it somehow suits the Mercedes clientel better, eventhough enthusiasts might be sad that the W204 is dynamically the better car, even if its not the most comfortable.
