Engine Oil Level
I'm going to do my own oil change tomorrow so I need some help before I dive in. I know our cars require 6.5 liters of oil so should I just should pour in all 7 quarts (6.6 Liters)? I don't believe it's possible to top off the oil using the iDrive increments because I think it will show max level regardless if it's 6.5 quarts or 7 quarts.

Why not just try to hold back a little so it's 6.5L instead of 6.6? The extra .1L prob won't hurt anything but I don't see any reason to add it intentionally.
I assume you are not using BMW branded oil since you mentioned quarts? |

I use to be a BMW technican till the recession happened. I ended up going back to aviation. Now when I worked at bmw we would always put 7 qts of oil in the inline 6 engines. I just picked up my 2015 M4 last week. I performed a oil change on it the other day. Bought 0-30 from BMW with a filter, being I still have 1 year left on my warranty. I just put all 7 liters/quarts in the engine, and the oil level was spot on. I am just saying this because trust me no bmw tech is going to waste their time checking .5 of oil going into the engine. they are flat rate. get it in, get it out as fast as you can. especially since bmw cut the fru's on mostly everything for the tech.

Also, the electronic dipstick reading somewhere between min and max is exactly what it is supposed to say (think of it as a real physical dipstick). Your engine isnt 3/4 full of oil but rather 3/4 above the minimum level and 1/4 below the max, i.e. perfectly filled. No need for you to add more oil. |
