What's the Definitive Wheel Stud Kit to Use?

I’m going to get a wheel stud conversion kit for my M4. I’m still unclear which brand to go with. Search through old threads and every brand seems to rust.

My car is daily driven and doesn’t track. Currently running 15mm spacers (switching to 10mm soon) with 666m wheels (265/30 285/30 PS4S).

Looking for 90mm studs.

I was considering Motorsport Hardware at first, then Macht Schnell.

Is there a consensus as to which stud kit to go with now?

Unless you buy titanium wheel studs/nuts, you will experience a slight bit of rusting with any steel wheel stud over time. After installing and removing wheel nuts several times, you eventually will wear down the black zinc coating and rust can occur.

I wouldn't try to overthink this topic too much as long as you're buying a kit with honest 10.9 grade hardware or better.

Motorsport Hardware is great. That is what I use on all my cars the M3 and M4 both see track use.

Other steel options like Macht Schnell, MSI, Bimmerworld, etc. will also work great. Im not a fan of titanium studs but companies like Future Classic make them for a pretty penny.

90 mm studs will let you run a 25mm spacer. If you like the super long, extended race car look, then 90 mm will be fine, but you could get away with a 75mm or 80mm stud if you only wanted to run 10mm spacers. The benefit of using the shorter stud is it's less unsprung rotating mass and you wont see as much "rusty stuff."

Black Motorsport Hardware studs + gunmetal MH racing nuts might be the move for me.

FCP has Motorsport HW. If/when they rust you send them in for free replacement. I buy the individual ones (plus nuts) for this reason, not the sets.

Running Motorsport Hardware conversion studs and Racseng extended lug nuts.

The titanium doesn’t corrode and keeps the wheel looking nice.

Steel nuts will rust over time and don’t look that great.

Many track folks consider studs a consumable. Like stated above, don't overcomplicate it. The steel ones are all identical. I've had my Motorsport Hardware stud kit for around 2 years and they're holding up fine tbh.

With titanium, definitely do some research. I've heard some issues with them shearing off, at least on the track. There's a few threads on here that I've seen relating to the titanium stud issues.

I use BimmerWorld’s 82 mm race wheel studs and nuts. No corrosion issues yet. Went with 82 mm because two sets of winter wheels require 10 mm and 12 mm spacers.

I use PS design titanium stud and nut kit. Works perfect.

If you are not going to use the car with slicks on the track you can use titanium studs and nuts without any problem.
Titanium alloy has to be grade 5.

Everything that is not titanium is going to rust, I am developing stainless bolts as strong as any other on the market, I will publish it when they come out of the heat treatment.

You won't find any race teams using Titanium studs, only risk involved.

As long as one doesn't use acidic wheel cleaners, you won't have any issues with zinc plating. Soap & water is all you need, or you're simply not cleaning your wheel enough.

That being said - we have uses exclusively Macht Schnell hardware on all out builds for the past 15+ years.

He is not going to use the car on the track...
Therefore the best option at the moment is titianium.

My vote is BW race studs. They are the highest quality studs I've used personally. Kind of pain to install tho since they're bullet nosed.

Use of jam nuts adds ~30 sec to the installation of each stud or ~10 min overall The quality of the studs, and nuts, is worth the extra 10 min it takes to install them.
