So, I just had my 1,200 mile service. One of the lines on the work order states: Decode break in restrictions.

The car seems louder (in M2) and has more punch from low RPM. Whatever they did made a difference. Even the transmission acted more stiff during the first 20-30 mile.

Yes it must do something to make it sound a little louder... As the demo my dealer has ... Had the service done and side by side there's sounded louder....

1,050 miles on mine right now. Can't wait to get service done. Looks like there is a difference after the 1,200 mile service.

Don't be fooled. There is no difference after the break in service.
All placebo.

Yes I have. Did ED, took it on the autobahn, nurburgring, and spa before the break in service. Trust me, there's nothing held back.
Picked it back up recently back home and feels exactly the same after the service.

Maybe its just because you can be more careless in using the accelerator.

Well, I agree this sounds like urban legend. But my sales associate parroted the same thing when I was in the dealership yesterday doing the 1200 mile service. I ran into my mechanic on the way out and asked him if there was anything to it and he told me that the car was only at about 75% horsepower until after the programming at the 1200 service. I'm not saying this is gospel, but it was a BMW-trained mechanic that works on all the M cars at a particularly large BMW dealership, so there may be something to this.

My Sales guy told me the same thing.
And sent me this last week,
Let me know when you’re booked with service for the “unleashing”.

Mine feels WAY faster after... like 50hp faster

What the sales people are missing is that they interpret being able to open the car up fully (the driver, that is) with more power. There is no more power before or after. Just permission to really "give it to her" after.

It is not tuned down until the 1200 mile service.

The really scary thing was me having to convince half of the service staff at my dealer that the M3/M4 S55 actually has two mono scroll turbos, and not one dual scroll, or two dual scroll turbos.

Quite disturbing how service/sales advisers don't know these types of things, and also go around saying that the car is only running at 80% until the 1200 mile service.
