Good point on PSS* being discontinued. Tire Rack still shows availability for 666M stock size. I still have a decent amount of tread left on the PS4S. Maybe I should just pick up a set of PSS* before they are gone for good.

I don't know, I went from the PSS to 4S on my 666s but also jumped up a size front and back and it feels great compared to the PSS. It's all subjective I guess.

Worthwhile re-posting here, it addresses directly the topic at hand:

I went from PSS to PS4 on my F80 with 666's and they feel great. I don't feel any of the mushy feeling that people are describing. Sound also seems similar to PSS. I can't speak for other sizes, might be different for 18" or 19" wheels compared to 20's because of the thicker sidewall on the smaller wheels but on my 20's They seem just as stiff in the corners as the PSS. They are the replacement for the PSS which means they took the PSS and developed it more. They are a great tire choice. Just my two cents.

I've had 4 sets of mpss over the years on m4's oe wheels. And 2 sets of mps4s on oe wheels and one set on aftermarket wheels. Wider at the back. I've given them a fair try over that time lol. Played around with pressures and driven in all conditions. Mpss grip a little less but the car steers like a go kart. That is lost for me when you go to mps4s but you gain grip. Both straight line and in the corners but at the cost of feel. All depends what the drivers priorities are. I've spent so much time in m4's I do have it at the limit quite often when others may not push as hard and wouldn't notice the issues. Who knows. Just my experience. It may well be that I return to mpss and find myself spinning out all over the place

i went from pss to ps4. definitely more grip, there is no question about that. second gear with stage 1 hooks up all day now. they do seems quieter to me to. its possible there may be some loss in sidewall stiffness as it rides better over small road imperfections.
haven't taken the car out yet to fully exploit the steering. Then again we are talking about the f80... a car not exactly praised for his steering feel. its never going to turn in like a cayman. overall its a better road tire imo and helps fix the f80s biggest flaw... lack of traction

PS4S need higher pressures due to their softer sidewalls. Have you tried running 35-38psi in front?

So was your grip improvement with 275? 285? 295? Or maybe even 305??

I just had 4S installed over 666s and am lowered as well. The grip is definitely there and much better over Mpss. It does feel more "cushiony" so I don't feel the road as much as compared to MPSS but that could be just having new tires?
What are people running for tire pressure on cold? All of my pressure is a bit off since install so will just bring it to America tire to get them all the same later this week. Left front is at 37, rest are at around 32-33. |

I think the ps4 are awesome tires. I ran pss on my previous 335 and they were OE on my f82. Steering was better on the pss, but tire longevity was not. I was getting best, 18k on a set of tires. The ps4 is quieter, better wet capable and more durable. I have consistently got 20k per set with tread still remaining. It’s my go to tire today.

My perspective from track use with both:
PS4S is overall a better tire. Great comfort, low noise, good grip in most weather conditions. PSS is a faster tire. More precise/slightly better grip. PS4S doesn't handle heat as well - got some serious chunking with them. You'll run faster lap times with the PSS but the PS4S is the better street tire. |

If one of my HPDE students suggested this with me in the, I'd just tell him it's safer to pull into the pits. Just my $0.02

Inner/Middle. I ran -2.8 on the M4 and had really decent temperature gradients and wear for the tracks I go to with NT01s, Cup2s, and Super Sports
