Service due soon at 200 miles?
Just bought my F80 brand new in May before deploying. I put 200 miles on it before storing it for the next couple of months. While I was driving it though last month it kept prompting me to schedule an appointment because service was due soon. I called the dealership and spoke to an SA. I told him my situation and if time played a factor in the break in 1200 mike maintenance service. He said no and I should be fine when I come back. What do you guys think though because if I was unfortunate enough to get someone incompetent on the phone I'm worried I might be SOL.

Nope put the 1200 miles on the car and take it in. You are mostly breaking in the clutches in the rear diff, so time is not really a big deal.

As far as I know the 1200 mile service is not time dependent, strictly mileage dependent. All subsequent service is time dependent in the event that insufficient mileage is accumulated annually. Because it's possible that it never occurred to BMW that 1200 miles would not accumulate within the first 12 months, I would get something in writing stating that it's 1200 miles regardless of time. Fact is, if the break-in service requirement is not complied with it could void your warranty.
Edit: If the dealership decides to play dumb on this, just call BMWNA and they will be happy to help you out. |

Thanks for this. It'll be hard for me to call while deployed cause internet sucks but I'll see if I can email BMWNA just to be safe. I have nothing to lose. I agree on writing is crucial to be on the safe side.

But as far as the car goes, thank you for the phone number. I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.
