Shipping from out of state
Hi All,
Was looking to ship from out of state from a BMW dealership and the salesman said he would connect me with their preferred shipper and I would handle it from there. Other dealers have told me they would handle it and I just pay the shipping cost. Can anyone chime in on whether their dealer handled it? Im a bit nervous having to deal with it as this is my first time. Thanks, |

I just dealt with this with a dealer shipping my car from Chicago to MA.
They provided me with their preferred shipper but I was reasonable for that cost. I instead decided to go with Intercity Lines as their reputation was far superior than what the dealer suggested. |

It's getting picked up. Shippers have insurance so if anything happens to the car while It's under their possession they will cover it. |

I work at a dealership and we always handle the shipping arrangement whether we pay for shipping or the customer pays us for shipping. As a customer you shouldn't have to worry about arranging your own shipping from a dealer.

dealer should arrange the shipping regardless who's paying. Sounds like your salesman is lazy

This is what I thought, he was the only dealer to tell me that would be between myself and the shipper. Wasn't too happy about that.

- every car is covered in a cloth covering & plastic covering - all flooring is solid with zero center gaps (i.e. if there were a fluid/ oil drip it would not drip down onto a car below) so even with spills that manage to drip off the platform, the coverings keep the car protected |

The only downside on Intercity is they are their own company, so lead times can sometimes be 2-3 weeks. |

The dealer I bought from only offered open trailer, so I opted to arrange my own enclosed transport through Go2transportation and the process was painless.

If you are on the East Coast...reach out to Applewood Motorcars, based out of WV. They handle a lot of high end cars, and the owner is personally involved in the logistics. They own all their trucks and have only enclosed transport. I had an excellent experience getting my F80 shipped from a BMW dealer in Ohio to NC a couple of months back. The icing was that it was also a couple of hundred cheaper than other quotes I received for enclosed.
Btw, I had to arrange the transport myself. The dealer rep said it would be quicker and cheaper if I handled it myself. Not sure if that were really true, but I am glad I did some research and went with Applewood. The car arrived in mint condition. |

Purchased from Audi Chandler AZ and my salesperson arranged enclosed carrier shipping to Seattle with Gas Motorsports. Car arrived on-time and it was handled with care.

This is a very interesting thread, a lot of good info here. Question along the same lines. For all the people who bought their cars out of state, did you guys also go out to see the car before buying? Or did you have a company do any kind of PPI or other type of inspection on the car? Or was it just purchased the car just buy looking at the dealership's website?
