Dealer refurb 437m

Effing fuming - my dealer damaged one of my 437m and it came back from their offsite repairers this morning.

Whilst colour match of shadow lacquer was superb however the cut faces have machining marks in the them.

Doesn't match the smooth cut surface finish under lacquer of the rest of my unrefurb'd 437m at all.

Is this normal for diamond cut wheel refurb's ?

It depends on the equipment used and the operator. It should be close to OEM and if they match the lacquer then they have the expertise as that is the most difficult part of the process. Tell them to redo or replace with a new one.

Update - after a visit to the dealer - with GreatWhiteM2 - cw one of his 437m freshly refurb'd Ferric Grey done by a different wheel refurbisher - dealer acknowledged the quality of my wheel’s refurb was below par and have offered me a new wheel.

Unless the whole wheel is done it would be really difficult to "smart repair" these wheels which sounds like what they have tried to do!

Dealer did the same to my old wheels, came back with machine marks under the clear, a total joke to be honest. How they can't change a tyre without destroying a wheel baffles me.

My view would be to insist on replacement in any scenario involving damage to a diamond cut wheel (unless it was already refurbed or you kerbed it in which case up to you). We know refurbed wheels don't last (i.e. they will usually corrode over time - even stock wheels are prone) and are not then covered by BMWs corrosion warranty.

Ref warranty- the dealer rep said they warranted the refurb same as bodywork ie 2 years.

When comparing GWM2's FG wheel refurb to my wheel refurb, mine had evidence of TWS cutting tip jumping rather than cutting and TWS lacquering over the top of it.

Creates like a burred edge that would have started corroding in 6-12 months. The dealer could see GWM2's refurb wheel by comparison looked way more oem than mine.

I think my concern would be that refurbed wheels do seem to corrode far more quickly than stock so I wouldn't want it done unless I caused the damage and chose to do so to save money - if they damaged it they should replace it in my view...
