I don’t believe engaging has been used as a verb here, but rather as an adjective.

Yep, exactly

- 3530 lbs (Manual) (US curb weight - including full fluids in the car, all standard equipment for US market and everything that is expected to be equipped on more than one-thirds of M4 sold (i.e. 19" wheels))
- 3585 lbs (DCT) (US curb weight - including full fluids in the car, all standard equipment for US market and everything that is expected to be equipped on more than one-thirds of M4 sold (i.e. 19" wheels and DCT are included))

I was just exaggerating a little for humor

Do whatever makes you happy. I used to be a "manual 4 life" guy in the late 90s/early 2000s and then life happened and I got lazy. My last vehicle manual was a 2013 Audi S5 with a stage 3 clutch and it was tons of fun! I definitely miss driving up and down PCH while shifting gears and the windows down.

For those of you wanting a real manual experience, ride a motorcycle. Nothing is on par with the engagement and excitement of riding motorcycles. Each extremity of your body independently controls an aspect of movement/operation and it NEVER gets old.

I never got into motorcycles. I was afraid that if I did I would never get old.

You can drive an MT or an AT in a rudimentary fashion or you can learn what each transmission is capable of and take advantage of its capabilities.

Some DCT/AT drivers (an AT by any other name is an AT - and if a transmission can be put in "Drive" and will shift automatically as far as I am concerned it is an AT) simply put the car in drive and go on their way. Others use manual mode and the paddles and shift on their own. Still others (including me) go between manual and automatic mode depending on the situation. One of the things that I like about 2 pedal transmissions is that you can left foot brake. I find that braking with your left foot gives you a big advantage controlling weight distribution and contact patch size.

Some MT drivers have learned the rudimentary skills of starting smoothly from a stop and changing gears. Others have learned to heel and toe, rev match downshifts, etc.

A truly expert driver will be comfortable with either an AT or an MT and will be in full control of the car regardless of what transmission it has.

Because weight is the top concern of someone buying a luxury car with air conditioning, power seats, leather, and satellite radio who uses it to commute to work and sport drives it 0.01% of the time.

Well, I guess it is...

Test drove a 2018 M3 with a 6 MT today and after leaving the manual world for 3 years (E92 M3 had a manual) and going with M-DCT in my F82, I gotta say HOLY CRAP I forgot how fun 3 pedals are in this car! This manual in the F80 is sooo much smoother than the manual I had in the E92-- no notchiness going from 1st to 2nd. Maybe the novelty will wear off driving in LA traffic again but I may have to switch back to 3 pedals for my new lease!

I found the 6MT in my ‘15 a little notchy 1-2 for a while, but it was fine by 10k mi. Never had an auto in my cars, only in SUVs.

I had the DCT in my 2015, loved the insane speed of the shifts and ease in traffic. In my 2018 I went with the 6MT for a more involving experience, loving it so far. Really can't go wrong with either, they're both amazing.
