CanAutM3 Does your RS3 have Dynamic Steering? If so how do you like it? I just realized the tester of the RS5 I drove had it and that explained why the car was so easy to drive, least I didn't have to exert myself with the steering.

The steering assist is adjustable on the RS3 (like it is on the F8X), but it is not “dynamic”.

Nice write up! I agree Audi has the best configurable virtual cockpit. The updated G series one in my wifes 550 is a disappointment compared to it. But, you are right then Audi oddly has a confusing/clunkier MMI (to my wife and I anyway) compared to iDrive. Audi does do interiors a bit better as well, those seats!

I'll need to spend some time in an Audi to see about their seats - hadn't heard anything particular about them before.

I know I'll get flamed for this, but that's ok - I have to admit that the seats in my wife's Nissan Murano are extremely comfortable. Quite like them. The SRT-8 is not nearly as comfortable.

I always liked Infiniti/Nissan interiors on there higher end cars. The Murano/Maxima/G cars etc interior is really nice/comfy.

Ahh okay, got it I might see if I can give the RS3 a shot.

Thanks

Yeah honestly I hardly messed with the Audi MMI only because of how handy the Virtual Cockpit was that you don't even need to mess with the MMI. Yes, there are a few things you can setup in the MMI that directly affects the Virtual Cockpit but for the most part, once you set it up the way you want, you won't have to mess too much with the MMI aside from the normal stuff.

I really didn't expect to like the RS5 as much as I do. The biggest thing I have seen from two main Audi forums are that the RS5 is expensive and not everyone see the 20k price increase. As I have said here but not on that side, the C63S and RS5 MSRP are pretty much the same, they both sit at 74k. Benz is slightly more by $500.00 but that is it. Some say the S5 is more worth it but from what I gathered, the S5's depreciation hit is extremely bad the first two years. If I can remember correctly, I was told the Audi RS5 has a 65%+ (obviously estimated) value still after 3 years, which is extremely good if you compare the car between it's main rivals. That is, of course if you care for that stuff.

It's partially the design but with Audi's leather or design, it is also comfortable and it has enough padding that if you're very skinny like me, you don't feel fatigue driving. I have had this problem with the Macan S we have. I am not fond of the cushion in the Macan. Also, from my initial impressions, the leather in the RS5 at very least, it shouldn't deform nearly as much as the ones in the F80/F82/F87. For example, my M3 is very babied. You won't see another M3 as protected as mine and even then the leather is slightly off (you can see it has been sat in). I'm not even past 3k in miles yet, I clean often too.

You can opt for the Alcantara/Leather instead of the full leather seats but Alcantara is hard to keep clean (least for me) so, no alcantara leather seats for me.

Most Audi "R" cars are beautiful. The only one I don't like is the R8.

Wow!

Did you end up having a great time on Kauai? I've been there twice, and would definitely love to go a third time.

I did, thanks for asking Schwarz! We basically just hung out by the pool, red books, ate most of our meals at the club, and barely did anything of value - so it was excellent.

We kept threatening to go out to a nice dinner, but we never did because, on the first night, after happy hour at the club, we ordered room service - and being mediocre vegans we got fruit, grilled veggies, and some traditional fish. The chefs liked our order and gave us these heaping awesome plates! So we did the same thing the next night and the plates were even better, and so on.

So, yeah, it was great - we've basically decided to move there in 2 years, at least for a little while, probably at least 6 months. We spotted a house in Poipu with property, an ocean view, and a pool for just a bit more than we're paying here. Not a hard choice there. I might need another swimsuit though.

Anyway, here's my best cell phone pic of the Wed luau as I didn't bring my DSLR (that right! I was flying in cargo shorts! the black socks were only for the flight because yuck):

And for anyone curious, we splurged for business class on Hawaiian and it was very worth it - one of the better ones I've tried with one caveat: they have the food they have and that's it. My wife typically has them make up a nice salad or whatever and Delta amongst others always does a great job, but HAL has what what they serve you and not a crumb more.

The IFE setup was really cool - those are ipads that sit on a retractable flag pole thing. When you're not using it, the pole folds away so you have tons of room, plus you can move around the ipad anywhere you want. Overall it's definitely worth it for me.

Wweeelllll .... will probably hang up the corporate skates in 2 years that's for sure. I'll call it an extended sabbatical as I'm not quite ready for the early bird special, but I do have like 20 grey hairs now. It's a bit disconcerting. And when I get my hair cut I see them!

But I am old enough to appreciate this:

here's a picture of the pool we hung out at on an average day - this was a 10 second walk from our room. To the young eye, this whole setup looks lame, right?

To the old-guy eye this is fucking awesome - no kids, muthafuckin lane markers for lap swimming. 2 hot tubs (theres more tubs and shit behind those glass blocks). All you could hear was gentle spa music and birds. There was spa water. raw almonds. dried tropical fruits and coconut. a mens locker room with open air (but private) rain showers built out of lava rocks and everything you'd ever need.

I'm old enough to know this is magical.
