I'd argue this upcoming event is reason for a strong federal government that know what it is doing for times like these.

Not a powerful presidency based on its own self serving needs and 1/2 of the federal government supporting that type of power.

I do believe there is a difference there.

I did notice, While going through customs yesterday, an extreme number of people in wheelchairs. Over 100? And lots of people in masks. I probably need to make a run to the store tonight, to get a lot more sanitizer

Yeah, agreed, although I'd articulate that as a weak federal government with strong institutions/departments, e.g, FAA, FDA, FCPA, CDC, etc.

You don't want an executive with the power to muzzle institutions. And then there's things like health care, I'd much rather states get funding to pick what works for them rather than the federal government owning the means of production, ie, care (talk about your death panels! Can you imagine if trump decided to get involved in medicare treatment policy?? There's nothing stopping that - pledge loyalty or lose coverage )

just following up from Trump's hastily called press conference today (which he never does) and during which he sounded a bit somber (which he never is) and walked a few things back (covid19=hoax) ever so slightly (which he also never does) ... it made me wonder, what's he hearing?

And then there's:

15%-20% need hospitalization. think of that for a moment ... let's say 50% of the US is hit and 15% go into the hospital ... that's like 25,000,000 people hospitalized. For a minute, let pretend that it's staggered so it doesn't hit beds all at once, thus there are still enough beds for everyone ... can you imagine the cost?

Let's say CONSERVATIVELY, $4k/day for a total of ~$75k for an average stay. That'd be about $1.86 Trillion. Let's pretend that's wildly high and call it $1T. And then there's the demand and supply shocks happening while all of that is happening ... and, again, that's if only 50% of the US is hit and there are enough beds for all who need them ...

My point is, holy shit.

(1.) we're at the still-struggling-with-basic-facts stage, BUT

I am not.

My entire philosophy lately is... going hardcore left or right, very old white people in office, has always been a bad idea.

So... Biden and Sanders are a no for me. So is Bloomberg or Warren. None of them give me any sort of Hope Democrats know what they are doing.

Well, my 2 cents, i'm voting FIRST based on who I'd most dislike ... thus, given I'd dislike the status quo more than just about any other option, I'm voting to first stop the bleeding, then later I'll vote to course correct ...

Live COVID19 tracker here - remember that in the US we've tested ~500, and in S Korea it's 100,000; this is because the federal government wasn't prepared (CDC epidemic teams disbanded last year, DNI epidemic lead fired a few months ago) and still doesn't seem to be - we might be able to catch up ...

That said, if it's really been here for 6+weeks and you run the transmission math we likely have 40,000+ people with it who don't know ...

I"m going biden purely because I don't want trump and Biden's got the best chance to stop him, while Bernie has the worst chance:

* Already lost Florida
* Hasn't increased turnout or his numbers in IA, NH
* After 4 years of work in SC, his numbers increased a few % so he'll lose the entire south
* Alienates suburban voters and depresses turnout for them
* Bernie hasn't even begun to get hit with oppo and "bernie's a commie" propaganda

In short, the only way Bernie wins against Trump is if:

a.) He convinces people he's not a commie socialist
b.) He convinces people the old way of thinking about deficits is wrong
c.) He's able to turn around suburban voters
d.) He's able to somehow recover something with black voters
e.) He's able to get 4x more turnout than he ever has, something he's obviously not yet proven, including with the youth vote

So, while I ain't excited about Joe - it's gotta be Joe.

You guys remember my intuition about Trump in 2016? Everyone hatin on me for saying he was tapping into a real piece of America and Hillary wasn't addressing it?
