Thoughts on what year to buy.

Hello,

The wife just got a 2018 M550i and it is an awesome daily driver for her, plus fun to push it around.

I was looking for a 330cic zhp and 335is convertible and got tired of only finding junk.

So I test drove a M4 convertible with Comp Package, and it was a blast.

I can't decide if it is better to buy a 2016 with 15k miles, or an 18 with 15k miles that has 2 years of warranty. I would rarely drive the car during the week.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

If you don't plan to tune, and will only use it on weekends, the 2016 and 2018 will be comparable, assuming both are ZCPs. Also depends on how long you plan to keep it. Neither is particularly high mileage, so I would just get whichever one is the better deal, factoring in what you might spend on the 2016 without a warranty.

Get the '18! It's basically a Q of LCI vs pre LCI, and what you intend to do with the car.

With the LCI, you get: (summary from CanAutM3 here - https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...8;postcount=92)

- Bi LED headlights standard (instead of Xenon)
- New look full LED headlights (optional)
- New look full LED rear light clusters
- Black ///M emblems in the seats (instead of silver)
- Fake stitching on non-leather dash
- Black 666M wheels optional with the CP
- iDrive 6.0

If and when you decide to sell it, the LCI will hold better value. Plus, you get to enjoy the factory and maintenance warranty for some time.

However, if you think you're gonna mod the car pretty quickly and heavily, you're probably better off getting a '16 as it's cheaper and you won't have to care about voiding any warranties. At 15k miles, all it needs is prob a clean PPI and you'll be good to go.

The F83 Comp is a blast, I'm lovin' it. Good luck with your search.

I'm a 2018 F83 owner, you will live the car, even though there are haters out there. Have fun and enjoy your purchase like all f83 owners do. Let me know if you have any questions about the F83.

How much is the 16 your looking at? And if the 18 is inflated how much can you get it for? I got a believe there’s about $20,000 or more difference between the two cars.

69k is way overpriced for that 18.

The 16 will have depreciated more and be a better value if priced reasonably.

18 F80 M3's with 15k go for like $55k-$57k. They are insane asking $70k. F80 is carrying a premium in the used market FYI.

That car is worth $56k at most.

I paid $65,8k for my 2018 F83 ZCP fully loaded with carbon and Dinan fuel exhaust with 5k miles , no accidents or body damage.. The current rate for 2018 is about under $60k with less miles. Look elsewhere.

I found my car on cargurus , don't be afraid to travel for the right deal, I live in NJ and purchased my car in Washington DC.

I have a 2016 M4 and my wife has a 2018 M3 CP. The iDrive features on her car are way better than on mine. All things being equal, I'd go with a 2018.

2015 + mods is the best value. tail lights and carbon arent too expensive to upgrade

2018 if you want the headlights.

everything else is small potatoes to me as far as differences. skip the 16 17 19 and 20

So that 2018 appears to be certified from the research I did. That would be a plus. However, the 1,200 mile service doesn't show. Now that might be a glitch, but I would confirm with the service dept that it was done. Cause they can't certify a M car unless that is done (unless the vert is different).

And you kind of want that service to have been done. Otherwise, it could be used against you in a warranty claim on the engine/diff.

That said, if car had it (1,200 mile service) done and is certified, get it!!!

We paid $42K for our CPO 2016 vert with 27K miles in April. I personally saw the list of improvements to be pretty weak 2016-2018. Headlights, taillights, some cosmetic stuff, and iDrive. I personally don't care about the lights and paid less than $300 to get iDrive upgraded. Just not worth the $15K premium.

What's the price difference? Will you be buying an extended warranty on the '16? because the factory warranty will have expired by now. Depending on these 2 factors, your decision may become obvious.

Yeah, need to know the price difference. If you’re not going to drive it much, you won’t make up the price difference by having a warranty for only two years.

Good summary - the LCI is the way to go but it does give up the CFRP driveshaft compared to the 16/17. Small detail, even smaller on a vert. Good luck with purchase and enjoy the real hardtop. New G83 will be a Luxo-boat with a soft top - sort of a strange combo

The G series will be an bigger and longer fat pig, it does not make a significant weight difference when they put the soft top, they made the car 3 inches longer also, took out the great DCT tranny and took out the 4 piston brake system to put together a Lego kit car.

I would get a 2018 or 2019 , the newer cars will have the ECU locks on them is what I read so far.
