Look for some help from the community. Local law enforcement in Vancouver has been heavily cracking down on modified cars as of late and appear to be targeting M3's M4's of our generation a bit more. I'm on a local m chat group and over past 2 days, 3 tickets or vehicle inspections have been ordered on members with the mperformance exhaust. They are being cited as an aftermarket and non factory OEM part. As you can imagine this is very frustrating trying to explain that the part is a factory ordered option.
I have tried to attach a photo below of one of the infractions. You can see the officer states "branded" mperformance. So I'm coming to all of you for help. If you would kindly point me to or send me any kind of official BMW marketing or sales material that can show this part is factory OEM is a huge help. It would need to have a clear photo of the Carbon Fiber tips as that is what the officers use a "proof" that it's aftermarket. The idea is that hopefully having this in the glove or car so if we get pulled over it educate some of these officers that these exhausts are in fact factory spec. Thank you! Maybe have your local BMW dealership draw up an invoice for the M Perf Exhaust INCLUDING the part number? Or the window sticker for your car if the M perf exhaust was purchased new with the vehicle?

Great idea. Also looking for something with a photo. I think the cf tips throw them off. Hence the non oem belief

Guess one way to trick them after getting pulled over is put it in efficient mode to close one valve. Either way still sucks. Sorry OP

I'm one of the lucky ones so far and haven't been hit. But the guys that have been hit always throw it in efficient as the police will usually want a decibel test but some how they are getting readings of over 95-100db's on stock mpe's

Would showing something like a brochure even matter? Sounds like they want an inspection done with the dealer confirming nothing is wrong / in violation of local law.

And the MPE is not even that loud, even with the valves open.
We have pretty tight noise enforcement at my local track (LCMT). Cars on stock exhaust got black flagged at almost every event that I have attended. I run with the valves open on my MPE and never got dinged once. Maybe snap a screenshot of the BMW.ca website that shows the MPE as a dealer option.

Loud is relative. The fact that the F8X is turbocharged muffles the sound significantly. At LCMT, the 92dB noise limit is very strictly enforced. There are sound meters around the track strategically positioned to capture WOT acceleration coming out of corners. Most cars that get dinged are NA and supercharded ones such as 911-GT3, Mustangs GT/GT350, Camaros-SS/LS1, Corvette Z06, mostly when they run with their exhausts in Sport mode. Like I said, I never got dinged with the valves open on my MPE.

Tell them fuckers to get under the car and see for themselves the part number and BMW stamp. Then show them this PDF https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/at...3&d=1409156926 and contact the national BMW distributor if they have any more issues with a factory exhaust system.

Wow thank you for all the replies!
This is all going to be helpful! It's been a pretty unsettling feeling knowing that I'm being targeted for the car I drive while taking my kids to school or do day to day errands with an in modded car. Would seem like there is enough crap in the world going on that being targeted by the police for a car you drive should be one of the last things to think about lol |

I could attach a picture of the original window sticker from my car showing the M Performance exhaust and carbon tips installed at the factory
