M4 GTS Sacrificial Plastic Splitter Project

SOLD OUT

Final painted product - splitter fully extended:

Final painted product - splitter mostly retracted (left a bit out so you could see the color match):

Photos of primered/painting splitter from other users:

Creation of a replacement/sacrificial lower splitter, similar to the Fall-Line piece, but cheaper, more durable, and orange instead of plain black.

You can smash into curbs on track or take steep driveway entrances as aggressively as you want - UHMW-PE is up to 15x as abrasion resistant as carbon steel, so one replacement should last for years and years. Once I have the prototypes and can confirm fitment, I'll make them available to the community at my cost.

A bit more info:

Material: 0.375" UHMW-PE - Duro-Glide Orange 89
Size: OEM (approx. dimensions 1.5m x 0.4m)
Area: 2.85 sq ft.
Weight: ~4.9lbs (2.25kg). For reference, OEM carbon piece is ~2.75lb (1.25kg).

Would this splitter extend all the way to the side of the bumper, rather than just the way the stock is... like a tongue sticking out

If so, i'd be interested in something like this.

It's the same size as the OEM splitter.

If you extend the splitter further out, you cannot cut the steering wheel left/right to get over bumps. Which, admittedly is less of a concern with this splitter.

More importantly, you would probably need splitter support rods on either end to prevent droop - mounting those rods would likely require (at a minimum) removal of the bumper cover, attaching rods to frame (not sure how/or where this could be done) and drilling through the bumper cover.

Keeping it simple for now - a sacrificial OEM replacement that is much tougher and much cheaper than other options (and orange!). Maybe a wider one in the distant future.

A good body shop could probably color match that acid orange. iND can do it pretty well, but they charged me extra for parts in that particular color

The problem with painting a plastic, sacrificial splitter is that the paint will get scraped off. And areas near abrasions tend to flake and peel over time as well. You can see in the first couple of photos that my original lower splitter is fairly beat up, despite me being careful with it.

The goal with the orange plastic is that no matter how much you scrape it/smack into things with it, it will still be orange. Obviously not a perfect color match, but should hopefully look close enough for daily use.

You could have this orange splitter painted actual acid orange, but that will likely run $2-300 at a body shop and will look bad the second you scrape it on something.

Pricing came in today - pulled the trigger so they should be ready in 10-12 days. They were quite a bit cheaper than I expected, so the price will accordingly be lower. As mentioned before I am selling at my cost - admins, please let me know if I am running afoul of any commercial/sponsor requirements here, as that was not my intent at all.

I will have 7 available for $150 each, first come, first serve. Will start taking deposits / payments once I have them in hand and can post photos.

For those interested who would like to proactively figure out shipping costs, dimensions for shipping are 60" x 17" x 2", shipping zip is 30318, and weight will be 6 pounds. I will wrap them in bubble wrap, though they should be pretty durable.

I’ll take 1 too.

Would it be possible to get 1 made that’s about 6 inches or more wider? I’ll worry about mounting it and all that Jazz. Thanks

admins don't care about low key sales. It's different if you're advertising this in a specific thread
