The i8 is the Sports car in its most progressive form. Its the "What if?" Concept for a legislative future.
Legislation will increase , it is inevitable and larger engines could be at risk in the future. But same power (or more) can be obtained using far less cylinders and electrification. The first BMW e cars are a good example of this.
This is the showcase for the i8 in how to gain more using less. There is no other car like it on the market.

That was years ago. Progress and legislation has increased that companies have to find progressive ways to innovate further to move them ahead to increase sales and appeal to customers. If you stay still you don't progress and you don't appeal to new and Current and new customers alike.

Competition Package

Any regrets not waiting? Currently have my car ordered, but hasn't even begun production (been 2 weeks). Just feel like there's been so much talk about a competition package lately it's gonna come out a few short months after I get my car with s modest HP boost, different whee revised suspension and steering since they're getting lots of flack on lack of feel. All rational sides of me are saying fuck it considering ill prolly trade in after 3-4 years for something newer and better but the irrational side knows I'm gonna be slightly jealous for not waiting.

Its tough bc there is always going to be something on the horizon no matter what you buy IMO. The M is a great car I love mine more and more everyday I drive it.

plus there is no info stating that there is a comp pkg coming its all speculation, it could be years before they release it who knows!

Most of it will be able to retrofit, software will be the easiest. Wheels, you can just sell off and buy the new ones, along with the MPE that will likely be included.

As to handling & parts, the car is really excellent as is, unless you really plan to hit Germany or track on a daily basis.

Plus you don't have to wait to drive this thing!!

you never know what BMW has up its sleeve! lol my gut says they will wait 2-3 cycles till they make any changes and those changes will be minor but who knows right.

you know you want the car and you can get it obv so why wait for the what if? Go for it and enjoy it

Except power is only one aspect of the car... I'm expecting they will tweak the suspension a tad and maybe MDM as well. That and there is still a warranty

No one really knows yet. However, if I'm guessing then I think there will be a power bump (+/- 25hp), a slightly lowered suspension, revised MDM programming and new wheels. Similar to the competition package on the E9X but with a factory power tune as it is so easy to do on the F8X. I also wonder whether they would build in more camber range/adjustment than the current car.

Traditionnaly, Competition Packs on the M3 were not about more power but rather about improved handling; as was the case for the E46 and E9X.

Although this time around, it is possible it might also get a little power bump, since it so easy to do on a turbocharged engine. However, my feeling is that all new S55s will get a power bump when the M2 gets released.
