[Audio Coding] Replacing HK Logic7 DSP with B&O "Expanded" DSP

I had the DIRAC Individual Sound option in my 2008 M5 and it really sounded good. Much smoother sound than the HK systems of that era in M5s that did not have the DIRAC option. The current HK system in our F8X cars sounds crappier than the HK system in my old 2011 E90. Here's to hoping the iDrive 5.0 system uses the HK DIRAC DSP and sounds much better.

Today I was fooling around with my car can recoded it to factory default.

After I went for a 1 hour drive.

The difference between Logic 7 and B&O is pretty noticeable when listening back to back with songs you know well.

B&O Expanded is definitely a winner for me compared to Logic 7 even though we don't have the hardware that is supposed to go with it.

I just prefer the sound dispersion with the B&O but again, all this could just be between my ears.

Wow, this goes to say that even crappy products sell and are over valued... sorry to be negative, but my experience with HK in BMWs have been very disappointing!

I just did this coding and I gotta say, I like it a lot! The sound is much more wide and dispersed. No going back on this one.

I got around to doing this today and noticed a difference straight away. Expanded mode sounds better than Logic 7. As others have already said I am hearing details in music that I never heard before. I have a JL w3v3 12 inch trunk sub and the bass also seems more refined. Very smooth noise shaping, crystal clear highs that do not hurt the ears and, the detail... there is a difference! Thank you OP for posting this.

I just did this to my car and so far I cant notice that much of a difference. I might have to compare it with my friend who has HK speakers in his car as well.

I tried this today but do not like it (despite loving B&O in my previous F10 M5 and liking it in my previous 2018 S5). My take is that the speakers and dsp don’t have the capability of pushing out genuine B&O sound, even if the head unit is trying to do so.

Which of the options sets it back to the correct Harman Kardon menu/dsp? The first one?

Thanks. I did a search for “Lancher Cheat” and came up with nothing. Do you happen to have a link?

I have been using the Bimmercodeapp. I could just try to select any of the other four options from that setting to see what brings me back, but I am worried that two or more of them will appear as Logic 7 and I will not choose the correct one. Or worse — that perhaps none are the stock setting.

Thanks! I figured it out on BimmerCodeApp. But I noticed another way we might be able to program a better processor. I'll post a separate thread about it because I don't want to muddy up this thread with this other idea.

Thank you packetpilot for this post! It has been a noticeable improvement for the H/K Sound System!

Here are the EQ settings that I am using:

Treble 0
Bass +2
Balance 0
Fader +1

Expanded ON

100 Hz -6
200 Hz -9
500 Hz -6
1 kHz +2
2 kHz -4
5 kHz -3
10 kHz +3

At first it could seem that is some kind of bass recessed setting, as jgoens said to me in this thread:

But it is definitely an EQ aimed to a coloured sound, for the ones who like some sort of soft V-shaped sound signature.

Hope it could help somebody to tune their system!

I have coded B&O in my F30 328i with 9 Speaker Hifi system. And yes I feel the phasing different and I like it.

But when I switch from Studio to Expanded, I cant feel the difference. Furthermore even if I selected to Expanded mode, it will go back to Studio mode if I restart my car. Is it the nature of the system? or because my system is not HK?

My 2015 M4 with HK, had B&O coded when I bought it.

Yesterday I had the software updates done by the stealer so on the latest software.

Just been to recode the car with B&O but after coding it, the menu's still only has the Logic 7 option on the i-drive.

Anyone have any idea's why I am not seeing B&O ?
