Some hints to add:
- The leather is easy to remove from the seat back channel, it's only a little stubborn on the curves.
- Be careful when working inside the seat - the frame has several sharp edges.
- It may be easier to use tweezers to squeeze the clips together, since it's hard to get full size needle nose pliers in place, but I was actually able to squeeze them together with just my fingers.
- When reattaching the leather to the seat back, remember to roll the plastic edge over and into the lip. If you do a rolling motion, it snaps right back into place.

This DIY was incredibly useful. Did my badges today and it was surprisingly easy. The pictures make it look more challenging than it is. I agree with the other member - continue the rolling motion when reattaching the leather...makes the process a breeze.

Thanks for this!

Also wanted to add in my $0.02 - don't be intimidated by this! Relatively easy and straightforward. Took me less than 20 minutes to do both, and I was taking my time.

Definitely be careful when reaching in the frame to disconnect the plugs, etc. Caught my finger on a sharp edge so now there are a fair amount of blood splatters on the driver's side foam.

do you think the black ones will crack the same way? from what I know the piece is a lighting piece covered in some kind of cut out sticker. In hot weather it causes the glue under the sticker to start falling off and visual cracks. I had asked for the black ones to replace my cracking ones and Service advisor agreed and when I got the car back he replaced them with the same silver ones :/. So i just wrapped them with clear vinyl. don't really care about the color, I care more about the durability.

I actually think that looks pretty interesting without the M. I say keep it.

There have been no reports of the black ones cracking that I've seen.

Thanks so much OP for taking the time to document the install.

It is a great DIY guide. I now have the black M4 seat badges on my MY’16 M4.

They look so much better than the silver ones in conjunction with opal white leather.

Wow! Nice job on the DIY OP. I have the black ones but good to have as reference.

It always freaks me out to take things apart. Always afraid to introduce squeaks and rattles once put back together lol.
