Correct - no PDK in the Cayenne. It is still tuned wonderfully, quick to downshift and will properly hold gears in manual mode, but you definitely notice the split second lag in shifts compared to the instantaneous dual clutch. But at the end of the day, this is not a track car and the gearbox is appropriate for its intended use.

agree. Box in my m5 is perfect for what it is (weight). Porsche and bmw have figured out how to squeeze most juice out of the these trannys - especially in their top models.

I will say, of all my complaints with my new M3 - mostly centered around the iDrive, the ZF8 isn’t one of them. Would I prefer a 6MT? Yes. However, just like the DCT in my M4, I always have it in manual mode unless I’m in the highway. As long as you leave it in the most aggressive setting, it feels great.

Congrats! I really miss our Cayenne, unfortunately it wasn’t big enough/haul enough passengers. Needed a three row SUV.

Agreed with the X7 comment, oddly enough that might be the car that gets back into a BMW. But for almost half the cost of how we’d spec an X7, it’s hard to justify buying one over the Pathfinder. Especially where we bring it and use it for. It’s constantly got hockey or soccer equipment in it and it’s obviously always at rinks and soccer fields. Still sucks a 50k SUV smells like a locker room and will eventually get scratched up all over being at the these places, but still much easier to take than it being a 90k plus luxury SUV.

All that being said, the X7s are really nice family haulers!

Yeah… I don’t do vans but they are good for space.

Oddly I think I prefer a van over a 3 row. Not sure why…

Probably because most 3-rows are useless. There is nothing better than a van for when you've got to transport all your kids and half the household. Here, VW sells the Multivan and Merc's got the V-Class. Had the latter - five people, five mountain bikes, luggage all inside and off we went across Europe. Too bad you guys get the MB Metris/Vito only.

But, of course, not as cool as an oversized SUV nor are they as luxurious.

Especially the X7 is such a waste of space, oh my god. It's got a smaller trunk than the X5 in all configurations and all directions. The floor is 3 inches higher. Tows the same as the X5 which also can have a 3rd row as well if you feel the need to torture people.

And to top it off, I averaged 20 mpg around town in the new M60i and was getting thrown around on the Autobahn as it's sensitive to side wind due it being a fridge on wheels.

So what's the fucking point, then?

X5 x40i is an excellent vehicle. 75-77 grand loaded with shit and you're gucci. Need the V8 in the X7 and that's plus 40k.

A problem we ran into with a lot of either vans or three row SUVs in higher trims was captains only for the second row. Very few manufacturers allow bench seats in that row if you want any sort of options or you have to special order them. Which now isn’t as a big of deal but we know how recent history has been with that lately. BMW doesn’t do that with the X7 which is nice.

X5s are awesome vehicles but the three row option is very cramped for people in the third row. Even for younger people such as my daughter and her friends.

Yeah, that's a valid point with the 2+3+2 configuration.

Minivans or MPVs, as they call them over here, have pretty darn much died out. Every major European brand had one or two MPVs in the line-up and even The Big Detroit Three imported minivans into Europe in the 80s and 90s - Voyagers, Aerostars, Silhouettes, etc.

The old country is treating me well! I was actually going to post today. This weekend I got back behind the wheel for the first time in months. When I first got here I had two short stints behind the wheel of a VW T-Roc (a car that would do very well in the US I think), as well as a B-Class Diesel. This time I had a little Renault Clio with I think a 1.0L 3-Cylinder, 6MT, and no fuss interior with cranker rear windows and a stereo display. I drove it through the Dolomites (Italian Alps) and I have to say it was very fun and comfortable.

I also spotted some cool (and not so cool in the case of one...) car stuff (although was unable to photograph all of it).

I saw my first XM in the wild the other day, and this was in the "defender" spec, aka the spec that everyone in the comment section says will absolutely look good, which is all black to hide every detail. It still, of course, was very, very ugly and bolbous, a true embarrassment to M.

Yesterday I spotted a convoy of unreleased AMGs including an C63E, S63E, and GLC63E, of which I could only get a sh***y photograph of the former.

Today I also spotted a G90 M5 featuring "Electrified" stickers across the vehicle. This one, I was able to get some good shots of.

Speed is never something I am overly concerned with.

It is everything else that I am worried about. BMW has gotten a lot wrong as of late, I am extremely skeptical.

Agree. Even Camrys have 300HP now. Yes, speed matters, but as long as the car has "enough," I don't care if it's 400 or 800 hp. It's more about the driving experience now. Sound, handling, feel, etc.

Plus, even if it doesn't have "enough," since everything is turbocharged, "enough" is just a tune away.

Though you can totally ruin how a car drives by blindly turning up the boost.

Nice! If the logistics made sense, I could potentially come your way a bit and meet up sometime. I'm half tempted to visit the concourse d'elegance at Lake Como, free entry on Saturday

They also make a T-Roc Convertible! I don't know if it's stupid or ironically cool. But it's perfect for vacations in the Mediterrean, I bet. Seen it a couple times as Sixt/Hertz rentals down there.

Speaking of the Dolomites, here is one of my favourite photos. Done three trips with some bimmerpost members some years ago. Great times, great people. (the Porsches were not with us)
