I'm not trying to change anyone's mind, I couldn't honestly care less. More Cayman GTS' on the road will make my AY M4 stand out that much more. And in terms of ability, well, that can always be settled at the track. Yes, I'm sure Porsche is a common next step for BMW owners, as outside of the Cayman and Boxster, the prices quickly hit six-figures.

like minded? I'm not sure how you could possibly say the M4 and Cayman were created with the same purpose in mind.

The new M4 has a new engine (for an ///M) and is basically a different car from the ground up than the last M3. It's lighter, it's faster, it's turbocharged, among many other changes and there are maybe 2 reviews floating around of the 6mt in the M4. The reviews out there of the M4 have been overwhelmingly positive. So again, your claim of "purist of driving feel" might echo some of the car media--and you might even be right--but you have no firsthand experience... thus my statement that your opinion is not grounded in your reality.

I don`t find all reviews M3-M4 "overwhelmingly" positive, they are nice, not exceptional, but I do miss the sheer enthusiasm that test-drivers from past M3 reviews once used to share with us.
Now lets talk about some test drivers enthusiasm, you`ll exactly understand what it`s all about. |

What you don't know are the differences the two marques of similar class it seems like. I'm definitely not a Porsche fan. But this car? The Cayman/Boxster 981? There's nothing BMW has that compares to the overall feel and road presence. Not to mention the balance and symphony of noises directly behind your head with that mid engined flat 6. So yeah in my first hand experience of the 981 vs what the M4 will be certainly leans me toward the 981. The M4 will be good. But it won't be this good. |

I drove the M3 and I own a Cayman S. For pure driving pleasure, I will take the P-car. In case you need four doors and you need to haul groceries, the M3 is for you. In brief, the M3 cannot touch the Cayman (many of you will have a different opinion).

Yes.. Many have opinions. And that's great. But I've driven Porsches and I've owned BMWs... Yet I would not assert to know what the new BMW M4 drives like, unlike some here...
No matter how much of a Porsche fanboy you are, claiming any car is better than another without experiencing both--firsthand--leaves you with no credibility. That's a fact. No matter how much you try to deduce, extrapolate, speculate or assume, having an opinion one way or another without actually having "hands on" both vehicles makes your opinion less than worthless. |

I bought a Cayman rather than an M4. Haven't driven an M4 so I can't comment but it is far better than my 13 M3 I traded in.

Planet 9 is a good Porsche forum. Very adult oriented and made up of folks that appreciate cars in general. I would describe the tenor of the forum and most Porsche owners that I know as enthusiasts not "fanboys".
Check out the forum and let me know if you agree. Dave |

"Fanboy" is used as an intentionally derogatory term.
Most people would not readily admit to that characterization of their position on a particular car/brand, but many exemplify the classic traits of "fan-boy-ism" nonetheless.
