That's not always how people do things. I have no joint accounts with my wife. She has her obligations and I have mine, we both handle our respective ends and what we do with the rest is up to us. For example, one of her obligations is the utilities bill. As long as the lights turn on, I don't care what she does with her excess money.

That my friends is a key to a healthy relationship. When you start combining money, that's when the problems start.

Congrats brother!!! I did the same thing for my wife a year ago. She wanted the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT but kept looking at the Trackhawk. While I was negotiating with the salesman, I cut a deal for the upgrade.

She now drives a Jeep with a Hellcat engine. Best money I ever spent LOL. She doesn't blink an eye at my mods on the M4

Weird story. You say you didn’t feel like you could afford one but she bought an 80k car without consulting you? Nice of her but I hope it doesn’t cause financial strain down the road. I thought people only bought cars as Xmas gifts in commercials !

We've been married nearly 19 years and combined assets from Day 1. Different approaches work for different couples and no hidden danger in doing it either way as long as you figure out what works best for you and your spouse.

Seems like a double edged sword. I've heard many stories of spouses spending their money on credit cards, shopping, drugs, hookers, vacations with the person they're cheating with, etc.

My folks pool everything together and it has worked perfectly. If people divorce it can certainly wreak havoc.

If your spouse is cheating on you, going on vacations with that person, doing drugs, etc., I don't the structure of your finances is the root of the problem.

If your marriage can't handle combined bank accounts then you probably shouldn't be married?

Goes both ways lol. I think the best way to build real wealth is having them combined but I'm thinking long and it's worked so far. If anyone filed for divorce I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to just take a calculator add everything up and divide by 2 - unless you like spending your own money on pointless lawyer fees.
