Does anyone know the weight difference? I asked my dealer to weigh them and let me know upon arrival. I am still waiting for my driveshaft.

I just checked the government website:

RECALL STATUS: Recall INCOMPLETE. Remedy not yet available

If the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, please contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at: 1-888-327-4236 or TTY: 1-800-424-9153 or file an online complaint with NHTSA.

I have taken mine in three times for this and one dealer wouldn't even write up the repair order!

I contacted BMW NA earlier this month and this was their response. Only thing useful in their email was that we'll get a second letter when replacements parts become available.

Nothing yet here. I contacted the dealership, but they said they haven't received any parts and my VIN isn't up for the replacement yet.

Well, I'm also affected by this recall. I received an email from my German BMW dealer, who told me to coordinate with my local US dealer, but have not heard anything from my local BMW dealer, but plan on seeing them tomorrow.

I notified my SA, and I fall under the recall; though, they stated with a follow up that there is no remedy/corrective action yet provided to them, and I will get a call once they have this in hand, along with a parts order.

Im not sweating it... I'll just wait for the call and take it in when they're good and ready.

Just got off the phone with the BMW store where I bought my car last summer..no issues whatsoever I am at 12k but I did get that letter re:driveshaft before the new year so I thought I would call.. anyways they informed me parts will arrive in march and that they will do a callout at that time..
Obviously it is still Feb, but just update no calls from bmw yet.
I am insuring the car tomorrow anyways and dropping it off at the shop thursday for new suspension (kw clubsport 2way), and will drive it as usual until new driveshaft arrives...

2 questions friends :

1. we have not heard of any drive shafts actually failing before being replaced have we ?? (not too worried bout this)

2. will having installed coilovers affect this driveshaft recall, i think there is a thread on here where someone got denied their driveshaft due to having installed downpipes .. (got me a bit worried) but i had casually asked the shop and they had said should be fine, anyone know for sure ?

thx !!

To answer #2... only thing you should be concerned with is the post alignment they will perform on your car after the driveshaft install. You will want to make to note the custom setup you had/want them to duplicate.

Part of the follow-on maintenance after replacing a driveshaft is an alignment?? None of the suspension or mounting points are affected, with the very minor exception of a stiffening brace at the rear. Thinking back to when I removed the driveshaft on my ‘15 M3, I can’t think of a reason why an alignment would be needed. 🤔

This is excellent information I would not have thought of this, got suspension done yesterday, skipped work today drove it all day lol.
I am happy as can be and was studying the alignment they did quite well !

No luck today at Service center to get this driveshaft replace. They said they are still parts of the recall not able to be services under the recall.
Just got regular maintenance and oil change today.

I see someone's GTS has been served under recall and posted his receipt. It seems that a new part number is used, 26109882181. The decription does mention CFK, which seems to be CF driveshaft.

But, the price of this new part is about 1000 USD if you google it, which seems to be a bit weird considering that previous CF draftshaft normally cost over 3k.

Maybe this is only for the CS and the GTS but not for the other models who will get a steel version?

No idea. I dont see any difference on driveshaft among CS, GTS and other models (except for those with steel from factory, produced later in 2018)

I am very curious about why CF driveshaft under new part number costs 70% less than before....

Why does the GTS get priority on the recall that's stupid.

I am not sure they get priority but if they do it will be because the driveshafts in the GTS, which by the way costs twice as much as the base model, is more affected? One reason I can think of as to why this is is because the GTS is typically not driven by a soccer mom.

If this is true, I’d tend to agree, since the average GTS racks up fewer miles per year than the average civic M3 or ZCP.

And weren’t like 7 GTS cars recalled?

Buy them now for $1,000 they will be worth $2,000 or more in a couple of years. I have no idea where this price drop is coming from. Seems just too cheap atm.
