I don't see why people are so shocked about M4 and GT4 cross shopping.
Yes, there ARE some big differences But they are both German coupes with excellent handling, are at the top of their respective models, are available in 6spd manual, with about 400hp, in the $80-95k range Parker |

Well I wouldn't pay sales tax twice. I'd just pay it on the difference between the m4 trade and the gt4.
So far renting a M4 or 911 doesn't look like a viable option. I'm likely gonna need 3000km over a 10 day rental, and most companies seem to give you a lot less than that. And additional mileage is prohibitively expensive. The whole purpose of the trip was to drive a super car in Europe (I have done it once before with a f10 m5). I can always cancel my M4 and rent a basic 3 or 5 series BMW....just doesn't sound nearly as exciting. :-/ |

Hmm, well let's see it is a very nice car but you pay more, about $20-$30K depending on the option and have less hp and MUCH less torque, no maintenance, lose the back seats and gain a 911 wanna be that SCREAMS mid life crisis? Don't know about that one. If I ever come across $$$ I would get a GT2 and if I'm short a GT3. Even the Turbo 911s are too mid life crisis for some reason. This would be my 4th M car and I'm looking forward to it....

If I could get away with a 2 seater and didn't want to spend more than $100K, it would definitely be the GT4... or maybe a C7 Z06. Those two cars will be the best track cars out there for under $100K in my opinion.
Too bad I need a back seat Porsche appears to have out done itself on this car.

The Cayman is fucking dirty, but it's like skinny arms Rob Lowe and cable in the power department. I would buy the Z06 before it even though I would probably buy it if there was one on the lot.

It won't be a daily driver. As previously stated I've got 3 other vehicles to alternate between. So I'm not super worried about it being too rough.

This thread reminds me of a squirrel and the next shiny nut.
The cars are apples and oranges. Both great cars but fill completely different buckets. Cross shopping makes me think you're just looking for the next great thing. |

It is hard to get a read on someone from a forum obviously, but you do seem to have that squirrel-nut phenomena going on as someone else suggested above. Here's an idea for you: Dump the E39 M5, dump the F360, and park both the M4 and Cayman in the garage. Actually, the better idea would have been to go with an M3 instead of an M4, but it is a bit late for that. Well, its a bit late if you want to keep your date overseas, I should say. Nothing wrong with being impulsive and going after what you want, but there is a point where it all becomes sort of scattered and you go from being admired for taking risks to just looking like a reckless and confused hoarder. I'm not saying you've reached that point, but maybe the line that shouldn't be crossed is quickly approaching Anyway, my point was to try to help you problem solve this and get everything you want. You don't need the two Jalopies in the garage, both of the current apples of your eye will bury them six feet under. Out with old, in with the new and all of that. |

If you have the money to burn do it we only live once, enjoy the M4 while you drive thru Europe and wait for the GT4 and don't look back.

A replacement to the M4 it's not but a perfect second or third car it is. But I get how tempting it is to consider dumping your car for a GT4 as its the same price point.
It's a badass whip

I ordered a GT4 and I do not see the car as a replacement for my M4 but as an addition. I intend it to be my trackcar and occasional daily driver.I am quite pumped about the GT4 as I really think Porsche has got it right with this car for an avid track enthusiast at a fairly affordable price level.I am hoping for delivery in August.

I ordered a Z06 Z07 for myself and in typical GM fashion they will not build the Car with the Z07 package & Stage 3 aero due to commodity restrictions. I firmed up my GT4 order the moment that I found this out.it was a very easy decision as here in Canada the 2 cars are about the same money to buy.
