The two things that I saw where that;

A- He drifted a lot on that run.
B- He let off at the end.

If you watch him coming up the last straight, the car is so much faster than the others, that he pretty much cruises in to the finish.

As far as the ring times... we'll let's remember the Civic had a partially stripped interior on some very serious rubber.

Its sooo obvious.... Its because the civic was white - everyone knows white cars are faster on the track!!!

I'd like to know how many laps he did in each of the cars to get the times. 2/10 sec isnt much. Turning on traction control alone could have made up that time and more.

But civic type r is undoubtedly fast. Just made for a different demographic.

As for traction control. Never on a track. Controlling over and under steer is driver dependant on a track, I.e. how smooth a driver is. Ofcourse every car will behave differently driven by the same person in same conditions.

I call for a second opinion.
Steve sold his soul for YouTube views ... sensationalist journalism at it's best ...

Stick to Chris Harris I say ...

Also surprising given the estimated straight-line performance...

PERFORMANCE (C/D EST):

Zero to 60 mph: 5.5 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 12.8 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 13.6 sec
Top speed: 167 mph

lol that was a honda factory team and driver on slicks or cup tires with a non-production model while the M4 was sport auto tested. Come back when sport auto has that civic time.

For comparison, sport auto's tester who is quite a good amateur was about 9 seconds slower spec for spec in a GTR than nissan's factory driver.

not sure why you guys are surprised by this...

the Civic Type R has a faster Nurburgring time than an M4 (M3).....it is a seriously quick and well sorted machine.

Really? Do you have the link for the Sport Auto test? Only time I saw was on slicks w/ Honda factory driver timed by Honda so if that's what you're basing it off. Also, power and chassis make for quick times. None of this is to disparage the Type R, great car, and I'm looking forward to the nsx.

Steve Sutcliffe seems to have a bone to pick with the F80 M3. Every video he's made with it (I've seen 3), is him just being smugly unhappy about it. He seems to purposefully sabotage the review to make the M3 look bad in every video. According to him, the E9X M3 is much better; the Alpina D3 is much better; and now, the Civic is much better.

It ran a 7:50 bone stock with the added weight of safety cage , full interior on street tires not slicks driven by a factory test driver . It has not been tested by sport auto as of yet . My point is given the lack of power it makes its a focused track chassis to do what it does . No real surprise that it beats an M3 on a technical track stock vs stock .

Wth is the big deal. I see spec miatas doing better times at my local autox track, then gtr, 400+whp stis.. It is what it is. Also depending on a driver, lap times vary incredibly. Obviously civic r is easier car to drive fast, and w non pro driver at the wheel. Shit happens lol.
This video is bragging rights for highschoolers. For grown ups who actually can afford M, this video is just another youtube journalism
