I guess we don't know the compound yet? Extreme summer tire like a Pilot Sport Cup 2 or R888, or even a RE71R/Dunlop ZII street tire is a big upgrade over the PSS that are on the M3

Too bad the magazines don't have a control tire, or that BMW handicapped the M3 with the PSS and didn't give an option for a better performance tire

Steve Sutcliffe is notorious for being anti BMW, or at least anti F80/F82

Can't compare ring times. Laps aren't the same distance.

I wouldn't say the PSS is a handicap . My friend ran a 1:18 at Roebling road on PSS in his stock Z51 C7 beating the time of a lot of advanced drivers cars on slicks. Absolute grip is excellent it just wears out really fast when exposed to an advanced driver. It will be a Michelin or Pirelli.

*sigh*

Didn't we confirm Sutcliffe is anti-M3? Every video he has with an F8x he's goes on and on about how "bad" or "meh" the car is. His review is crap, his D3 vs M3 was botched and so this video is too.

He's like the ultimate M3 hater in a world of just himself lol

I could never quite put my finger on why he annoyed me so much but I think I know now. He kinda looks and talks like Johnny Ive. He constructs his sentences like he's really introspective and every word and pause deserves our absolute attention.

I don't know, I felt like my in corner speeds at willow springs were higher in my old Z4 with dunlop ZII tires, as compared to my M3 on PSS.

I also haven't seen anyone using PSS to try and win in street tire time trials or autocross classes

My take is that if your friend switched to sport cup 2 tires from the C7 Z06 he would be faster, and if the F80 was on that tire it would be faster (my guess is CTR will use those cup 2 tires, like the upcoming focus rs)

Of course sport cup2's will be faster michelin tested the two and it's about a second a minute lap quicker . it's a DOT R comp vs a fast street tire . My point is the PSS is probably the best street tire available and in no way a detriment to the m3 .

Apparently you have a hard on with pointing out your disdain for PSS's.

There are not many better street tires when rated for grip, comfort, life and rain performance out there, period. Maybe the track is a different story, but many do not care about that.

Next person who post a ring lap video and spouts facts as they were part of the engineering team there should be laughed off this forum.

Whole thread on this in versus section

Sutcliffe is becoming a joke. His drive was terrible (note the extend-a-drift on last corner and the throttle let-up over the line)

He has some weird bone to pick with M and this car in particular, like the lead designer was schtooking his wife or something......

He even said himself- with the traction control off is not the fastest way around the track, yet that's what he used to hot lap.

there is a race track comparison in the video in the OP.

You pointed out yourself there are better street class tires in that setting.

I corded mine in 3 days and they were greasy for most of those 3 days. Of course i dont like them

All I hear are a bunch of people bitter about a Civic beating an M3.

The fact that they were even compared on a track speaks volumes.

We see in the video the Audi and the BMW doing the lap. Where exactly was the footage of the civic going around?

He easily could have made up a second if he was not drifting that car around the track like a hooligan
