Traded my M4 yesterday for 2015 Porsche GT3 - lesson learned from it
I hate to trade my M4 but wanted to experience the excitement of owning and driving the Porsche GT3. I use to have a C2S 997 and C2 996 also BMW m3 E 36 and E 46 but the GT3 is another level of pure sports car. I went to three different Porsche dealership in the bay area looking for GT3 and my M4 being appraised for the trade in value and I was surprised that each one is saying the M3 has more resale value than the M4. So as expected I lost $17,000 on the M4 and have to swallow a marked up of $25,000 on the GT3 above MSRP. After a day of driving the GT3 one thing I learned is that it's true the GT3 is real pure sports car but unable to live with it as a daily driver. You need to rev the engine above 4000RPM all the time to really enjoy it. I don't know if I made the right decision. But to late now.. unless you drive the GT3 on the track I don't think you can really enjoy it on the street. The M4 is very capable car and can be daily driver and you can exploit more of its capabilities than the GT3 on the street. Will see after couple of days of driving it... I guess i just missed my M4.

Give it a month and my guess is that you'll be in love with the engine. It looks like the M4 was your first FI car in a long while. For me it's always an initial "this sucks" feeling when going from one to the other ( FI to NA or NA to FI ) and it takes a little while to adjust. How you will adjust to the stiffer ride and loss of practical space etc. is another story and much more difficult. Anyhow a big congrats and I wish you a happy outcome after adjusting.
Thanks for the honesty, it takes character to admit to yourself and others after paying through you nose for a car many see as the holy grail for driving enthusiasts. |

and I forgot to mention I have to buy another daily driver car ( 2015 Honda Civic) today after buying the GT3 yesterday. That's another lesson learned that my M4 need to be replaced by two cars .. one Daily driver car and a real sports car to get what I used to have in one car. Not to mention I have $200,000 car loan for the 2 replacement car. Mennn I hope this GT3 will live to be as what they are talking about on you tube !!!

I have been down that road with long test drives and not for me thanks, Porsche way to noisey over 70 MPH , awful road noise . EDIT: and the lack of torque is a real pain IMO.

eff that, mega ultra congrats. I understand the daily drive argument but you need to do two things:
-schedule a trackday -get a $5k craigslist daily beater for commuting The GT3 wouldn't be practical for me but I'll be damned if that isn't my within reason dream car. You're in the "supercar(or quasi supercar)" club. There are trade offs, but the real reason you got the car from in your heart wasn't to go on a camping trip or to shove Costco groceries in the trunk. Enjoy it, you're one of the few in a great car club, I'm so jelly. Now pics gotdammit. |

Check to see if there's something hanging down their between your legs....if there is, I guarantee that you too would buy this car to drive around for fun and enjoy life if you could. Quote:
What you're feeling is logic and rational adult thinking and the sick feeling of such a great purchase vs what you actually get....just a car that gets you point A to B. I felt the same way when I bought my first Rolex and saw my bank take a $7k hit and then when I look at my wrist I sort of just saw something that tells time and I felt a little sick at my decision. As the days went on looking at my wrist, I remembered why I bought the Rolex and it isn't "just" a watch. Just like that isn't "just" a car(in the context of an enthusiast of course). The easiest way to post pictures is to go to the tab that says "Go Advanced" below the posting box. Once the new window opens you will see a host of tools above the box. Top row next to the smiley face emoticons tab you'll see a paperclip. Touch that and it will guide you to select a photo to attach to your post. This forum sucks for posting images and the file needs to be small so if it's a hi-res picture it will not accept it. I don't have on line photo storage so I don't post images in this forum because of the pia it is. In this context the best way really post images is to use a photobucket type account to link pictures in your post. I don't understand why some feel the need to trash talk the op. Must every post be full of "win". If a person is honest and just comes to share his experience, which he may be second guessing or a decision he feels a bit sour about, why do some of you feel the need to absolutely say some retarded s*@#. The internet doesn't have to be such a crappy place full of trolls and immature retards, haven't you ever made a mistake or second guess a decision, how many football teams look at a replay and say why the hell did we do that, hindsight is 20/20 right. Put it like this, have you ever had a friend or family member come up to you and confide in you for advice, reassurance or maybe they just want you to listen....same thing here. At least that's the vibe I get from the op. The internet or especially this forum doesn't need to be this place of immature content for one another when you don't agree or understand someone's choices. |

My theory has always been: if you have to ask yourself "am I doing the right thing?" then your probably not.

I can not criticize your decision because i have never been in a position to lose 17k on my current car and then pay a 25k premium on my next car. The simple fact that you have enough money to do this shows me that you are immensely more successfull than i. Youre winning at life my friend, you need not worry about whether or not you made the right car choice. Youre obviously making the correct life choices!!! I salute you!!!! |
