MPG after mods
One of the reasons I decided to finally purchase a M was due to the F8x efficient mpg. So I'm curious if anyone has seen a significant decrease in mpg after your mods.
Thanks for sharing! |

Ha! if you wanted efficient mpg, you should've gotten a Prius.

I used efficient mode exactly once, when car told me I was out of gas and still 5 miles from the nearest gas station. Was absolute torture.

Intake, catback and jb4 installed. I haven't noticed any real difference with MPG but maybe it makes me drive a little more aggressive some times because I want to hear the intake and exhaust, thats about it.
Hate to say it but if you care about MPG then you bought the wrong car bro. |

For those thrashing should calm down for a second, the OP is asking a very reasonable question. In the end this is a daily driver for most people. So stop talking like your own a supercar or a track car. Yes it's an M3 but people commute with this car and don't necessarily always drive like maniacs all day long. Even supercars are now hybrids, so not sure you guys are so offended by his question.
OP, I wish I could answer your question. But if it's anything like my experience with the N54 engine, MPG should not be effected so much under normal driving.

At least your lack of sympathy with the OP's question is shared with a lack of mechanical sympathy for your car... |

Come to Istanbul, and mostly you will be using efficient mode unless you are on the track. Sport/Sport+ is very inconvenient for bumper to bumper traffic.. And I believe this is one of the biggest upside of our car, comfy for daily driving, and being ready for track anytime.

I use efficient and comfort modes on a daily basis and I get over 20mpg doing city driving
The mods havent actually affected my daily mpg, on the track however I now get under 8mpg lol It all depends on how you drive |

Glad you enjoy yourselves...
Since you wanted me to say something more to crack you up, I reccommend these threads where I've made a few contributions. I'm sure they will crack you up as well http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1222431 http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1226184 BTW, driving the way he implied and using efficient mode ONCE indicates a mechanically unsympathetic driving style when the drivetrain and engine is cold. |

You wont lower MPG because of your mods unless you drive more aggressively

I'm still laughing at the notion of driving the car in Sport/Sport+ while cold somehow shows a "lack of mechanical sympathy."

My mods are all cosmetic/aural (everything M Performance), but I average 16.4mpg. Yeah, I drive it like it's meant to be driven. Sue me.

Comfort mode is just like foreplay, way smoother when well lubricated.

I didn't notice any difference when I got the jb4 and I pay attention to that stuff. It depends on how you drive. If you baby it, it can easily manage 20 average. If you drive it like you stole it, Ull be in the single digits

From the owners manual: Engine oil temperature ? Cold engine: the pointer is at the low temperature end. Drive at moderate engine and vehicle speeds. If he drives the way he implied, that would be a lack of mechanical sympathy. If he drives like a nanny, but in Sport mode, then it doesn't matter that much (apart from higher shiftpoints on a DCT car in D and harder shifts). Cold oil doesn't work as well as hot. The engine and driveline needs to warm up before hard driving. |
