It's probably about a 10% change in cost of leasing the car. That's quite significant in my opinion.

+1,

I am also considering Penfed But the New Car Payment Saver loan option. It comes with lower interest than BMW lease and the residual is even more conservative after 3 yrs, which means that if I decide to sell the car early (in 36 months), there should be a lesser chance of being upside down. Also VA charges tax on full price of car. Couple that with no dealer and Acquisition fees, and the benefits of being able to mod the car etc, I think in this case it may be the better option for me. The payment is the same for me with a 60 month loan (which I can reconsider after 36 months as well) and a 3 yrs BMW lease. Except the later has more interest and 0 equity. Also penfed is easier to work with than Dealer haggling prices and fees.

I'm looking at Penfed as well now. Has anyone been through the process there to comment on how easy it was? Particularly if you had an ED...

Not too bad. I'm looking forward to the holidays as well. Hopefully I can lock in a better rate then.

I just got through the loan process and should have a check soon. Fairly simple. Applied online and exchanged a few emails about doing ED. They just needed the vin and purchase order from the dealer. I already see my loan in my Penfed account. It took about two weeks time.

And if you had applied that same DP to a lease, the payment would have been even lower.

It's so hard to impress upon people that loan finance vs lease finance, there is no difference! You typically pay a higher finance rate when leasing, and it some states, you get stuck paying sales tax on the full purchase price of the vehicle. Otherwise, lease vs purchase, it makes no difference. You're still financing the same principle. The only difference is that with a lease, you have an agreed upon buy-back amount at the end of a specified term.

Think of leasing like purchasing a car with an agreement to sell the car at a specific point in the future. With that agreement to sell, there's no sense in financing any more than you absolutely have to. Bam. That's leasing.

The dollar:euro exchange doesn't have anything to do with residual values.

A four point drop in residual is a real shit show.

Let's assume a $75k build.

2015: 63% residual is $47,250
2016: 59% residual is $44,250

That's a $3,000 difference in residual.

Someone leasing this car under the 2015 residual would be financing $27,750, so a $3,000 difference is actually over 10%.

Man, I'd be pissed if I missed the boat on 2015 residuals.

Which still has nothing to do with the exchange rate.

The dollar:euro exhange rate would only have an affect on MSRP. I.e., BMW could (theoretically) reduce the US MSRP of the car because of the strong exchange rate. However, financing is all done in dollars, so it makes no difference what the dollar:euro ecxhange rate is.

The reason BMW hasn't reduced the MSRP is because manufacturers are risk averse. They hedge heavily against currency fluctuations.

You mean, the M3 went down 3 points, and the M4 went down 4 points. It doesn't appear that the vert rates are different than coupe here.

Either way, suck.
