Ring Times mean very little period. Every pro driver I have talked to agrees.
This.

If the same driver is just having a 'bad' lap at the 13mile/21 km track , 8 seconds mean nothing.

On an average normal 2.5-3.5 mile track(let's say GP tracks) 8 seconds is a lot obviously.

Ring Times

The vast majority of M3s have never even been in the car park of a race circuit, never mind been on the race circuit itself.

Aluminium stiffening plate is the one that can be seen in the photo underneath the car or not?

Or, you know, you could just take 10 seconds to read the original post.

It is ~80 kg/176 lbs lighter when similarly equipped, according to BMW.

Engine (20lbs lighter)
closed-decked crankcase (4.4 lbs lighter)
Low-weight magnesium oil sump (2.2 lbs lighter)
New manual transmission (26.4 pounds lighter, I guess DCT owners won't realize these savings?)
Double-joint spring strut front axle (saves 11 pounds)
New five-link rear axle made from forged aluminum (saves 6.6 pounds)
CFRP drive shaft (40% weight savings over previous M3)
CFRP roof bow
Carbon fiber trunk for M4 (11 pounds weight savings)
CFRP front strut brace standard (weighs just 3.3 pounds)
Front fenders and hood made from aluminum

I guess the rest comes from good ol' fashioned Gherman Engineehring. Oh yah.

Lighter than the previous M3, not vs the 435.

Read the post, yo.

Other than that I enjoyed this thread very much.
Lol... Posts like this make me laugh.

I had an 08 e92 M3 6 speed. I KNEW WHAT THE SPECS of the new M3/M4 would be... I opted to pass on that as I wanted to have the last NA V8 M3.

You think I care that the 1% of the time I will go to the track and come up against a new M3/M4 the car "should be" quicker than mine...? (Of course depending on IF the driver is better than me).

I am happy to have a 2013 e92 M3 and not regretting it one bit.

Happy trolling to you

I don't understand how the Porsche relation came in here? On one hand, to me at least, no BMW is made to go after the 911, it's just not in the cards. On the other hand to one of the posters about Porsche making such great engines, does anyone remember the McLaren F1? They didn't go to Porsche for the powerplant, they went to BMW. There is no doubt Porsche could have done similar, but obviously BMW is no slouch either.

Both of them are stellar manufacturers, each with their own issues in the engine department, but I would not say one is better than the other. IMO of course.

I would also like to mention, I currently own a 335 with just a tune, that puts me into E9x M3 power ranges, yet I still retain 20mpg. Said E9x M3 gets what, 15mpg on a good day. Absolutely it's a cooler motor, but there is something to be said with progress and when manufacturers embrace FI and want to build one with NA characteristics, I just don't see the problem some people want to make out of it.

I agree with you. A lot of people comparing performance range between GT3 and M3/4 which are different category cars.
BMW as a manufacture has the technology and the ability to create anything they want, no questions about it.
Just a matter of different market approach IMO

Will be very interested to see what these cars weigh in at once R&T or any other mag gets a hold of a US car.
Oh my goodness what part of EQUALLY EQUIPPED don't people get?!?! That means, weighing a DCT car vs. a DCT car, and a 6MT car vs. a 6MT car, and all that, you know...

Sir, you just proved my point. Since you knew the SPECS you should have realized that the new M3/4 will not only smoke you at the track but anytime you try it on the street.

Lol... You still don't get it.

And as if I can't BUY the new M4 when it comes out.

And if you have ANY track experience just because the car is faster on the track in a PRO's hands doesn't mean YOU will be...

Real world is a whole different ball game. I see guys with Golf GTI's smoking guys in E9x M3's and I see E9X M3's smoking guys in GTR's and Ferraris.

Stop living off stats and live the real world. And I DONT race on the street so if you do good for you kid.

And the people bringing up Porsche are commending Porsche in building more and more powerful and lighter NA cars.

They are not comparing the M3/M4 to the 911 or Cayman/Boxster but commending them.

News is out the Cayman will now have a GTS model with about 370 Hp and 320 or 330 tq.

Wow you are slow.

You already claimed to know M4 specs back in 2011 , now you claim to know me.

I never quoted any magazines or pulled any info from other websites.

I simply use common sense, do you have that in Canada?

If I recall you did order a 2012 model, but got a 2013. Right?

http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showpos...8&postcount=24

How much info about the next gen was available at time of ordering your 2012 model (which must have been before the 2013 MY)?

I sat in the new 4 series w/M package and prefer the e92 instrumentation and dash layout. Everything is just speculation for me until the real McCoy comes out.

Active Sound again? I don't care if it is real noise this time, it is still being heard through an artificial medium (speakers). Wish they could've spent more time on cabin acoustics rather than doing the predictable and gimmicky thing.

Jason, any further details on how the "Pre-tensioned" turbos work? How do they keep the turbos spinning in off throttle situations? I don't see any mention of electric motors driving the turbos anywhere???
