S55 Cams Anyone???

Has anyone tried adding cams to their S55 motors??? Any performance gain numbers? As a former Evo 8 owner, cams added huge numbers on the 4G63 platforms. As much as 100hp!!!

Yeah, most S55 owners are trying to decide if SCH is real.
Changing cams, I really hadn’t considered it.

I used to look for cams from schrick for the S55 engine. Could never find them. I guess these are kinda new? Great company with a very long history of making cams for BMW.

So, I'm guessing these are drop ins that will work with stock valve springs an retainers. Probably gonna be pretty mild. But. I'm sure a substantial increase over stock.

Even with bigger turbos the power starts dropping off after 6k-7k rpm. If you can put big enough cams it could rev to 8,000 and make power past 7k rpm.

Another good thing, is valve springs and retainers are already available. The 3.0L S55 has great bore to stroke ratio which means it likes to rev, the head flows pretty good. Just need cams to make power at higher rpm's and we should see a big jump in performance.

The popular cams on evos are generally 272 or 274. I don’t know what the stock cam grind is on the f80, but 238 is super mild for the one side.

Well that depends on what the stock ones are like.

Talked to Bryan from Kies over the weekend, I wouldn't be surprised to see some type of build with these cams in the distant future... 😏

You don't need to build your motor just to use cams. I've done so many cam combos on my Evo on a stock block and head.

Not the same as replacing cams but you can modify the lift.

Idk who’s tuning with cams for air/fuel but it sounds interesting. They were fun on my s50 but I needed injectors, tuning, ceramics headers; etc. Tbh I am surprised shrick is still producing these. At least with today’s engine we don’t need to change injectors lol. They’re top quality cams but power can extracted in other ways with the s55 hence the reason way the subject of cams hardly ever comes up.

Just now, 13 years after introduction, cams are starting to become a thing in the S65 world.
The real problem is tuning, as it was in the E46 before it.

I suspect cams may become a thing in the S55, but who knows when tuners will support it?

I have a contact at Schrick if anyone has specific questions for them

Thanks! I want to understand more about duration and performance. E.g. If stock is 255/261 why would Shcrick go lower duration on the intake but higher on the exhaust at 238/272?

I wouldn't install $1,500 camshafts without data, dyno numbers or cam specs.
