Poll: Extended Warranty for your F8X - Did you get one?

My F83's factory warranty (4 yr/50k miles) is ending in July of this year, and I'm contemplating an extended warranty.

I thought it'd be interesting to get some statistics on how many F8x owners on here actually got extended warranties, and which level of warranty + BMW/aftermarket (if you did), given the fair amount of discussion on these boards on the myriad of warranty options.

Extended warranties typically come in 3 levels:

Platinum/Most expensive - exclusionary coverage i.e. covers everything except for things listed as exclusions
Gold/middle of the road - additional inclusionary coverage, over and above the basic powertrain warranty
Basic Powertrain/Least expensive - inclusionary coverage only on powertrain parts

Another perspective would be whether those of us who've gotten extended warranties would get them again. The rational answer would likely be a majority No, given the probabilistic outcomes attached to insurance plans, but we don't always make rational choices. The poll won't cover this, just thought it'd be fun to hear people's thoughts post-purchase.

Let's see what the stats say

Add geico mechanical breakdown up there. That's what I have.

Would also be nice to see how much people paid for their warranties.

Not sure I can edit the poll after posting it. Let me know if you know how?

And yes, there are, along with pricing, multiple facets that could be interesting to explore, but also many confounding variables involved e.g. condition of car, driving habits, when they bought the warranty, etc., so I decided to abstract it to a more general level for simplicity's sake.

Decided not to get an extended warranty. Was quoted upwards of $4,000 for a 6yr/100k from 1st in service date, which is only like 2 years. Not worth it IMO. And that was a "discount" from someone in forum that works at BMW.

The BMW ones tend to be pricier, though the aftermarket options are nowhere near being cheap either. The M-tax is real.

How many miles are on your car now? No major issues, I presume?

I plan to keep the car a bit longer and went with BMW platinum coverage for 7 years, don't want to deal with third party headache.
Got a deal when I picked up the car and BMW pricing increased annually, it would be better to purchase from day one.

Bought my car used with about 12,000kms and a year of warranty. Bought the platinum extended warranty for another 4 years up to 80,000kms for $4,085. As I plan on keeping the car for quite some time.

I don't think they cover the retractable roof on any BMW warranty is what deterred be away when I asked the service manager.

I am leaning towards buying out my F83 when the lease is up in June. I’ll get a Fidelity Platinum / Exclusionary warranty for it from Troy at FD-Warranty if I do. That has worked out well for me on other cars.

I thought about getting an extended warranty also for my F83 also, but thinking how reliable these cars are really are and plus I don't think I'm going to tune the car and it's more than enough power coming out as is. I've decided to save on the extra $7 to 8k aside for repairs just in case. There are users on these board who have past over 150k miles on their car without any major failure. Most of the fear mongering from crank hub failure, I don't see myself driving like a douce in a F83 except for leisurely drives.

I was think of getting the warranty because of the mechanical roof components and there are plenty of older cars without any issues so far beside some plastic piece breaking off her an there. Make sure to lube up any moving part of the mechanical roof and the seals around the car and your good to go.

The F83 built quality is fantastic compared to many other cars I've own and drive. This is not a track car as mentioned nor do I drive like that on public roads.

Too each to their own if they can sleep better at night knowing they have the extended warranty and they have also done all the maintenance based on dealers recommended schedule to keep you warranty intact.

I suppose if the crankhub is the major fear then spend the money on getting it upgraded and still have some money left over. Is a pity geico only offers mechanical breakdown when the car is new and not to used cars.

I wouldn’t pay $7K -$8K either. I’m expecting more like $4K - $5K max. with Fidelity. Repairs of any kind (e.g. air conditioner) are exceedingly expensive in these cars. We spent under $2,500 on a Fidelity warranty for my wife’s previous Q5 and had around $10K in claims. $2,500 was for the retractable headliner covering the panoramic sunroof. I would have never guessed it would cost that much. Oil leaks, water pump and other misc. minor items made up the rest. To me, I know there will inevitably be some claims and it’s worth it to me for peace of mind even if the claims end up being less than a reasonable warranty cost. Not everyone feels the same way, which I also get and that’s fine.

I intend to keep my '18 F80 for quite a few years so went with the BMW Platinum 7yr/100,00mi (currently at 46K). $6900 through my local dealer.

I am also looking into whether or not to get extended warranty. The plans you guys purchased, what kind of deducible are we talking about? Are they all with 0 deductible?

Ive got about a year left on my factory warranty, and I plan on keeping the car long term. I am only putting ~5K miles per year. At this point in time I don't plan on getting an extended warranty.

Deductible?

It should be called insurance company discount.

The person that came up with that shell game deserves an award.

You can usually choose the deductible amount. The lower the deductible, the higher the premium and vice versa. Zero deductible will be expensive. Price out at 2 or 3 deductibles ($100 / $250 and maybe $500).
